For this piece Capcom wanted something that divided the image into two which essentially showcased two classic games in Final Fight and Magic Sword. This was a bit of a challenge as I didn’t want the division to take away from the overall composition so eventually I settled with a suggestive, “ying yang” composition, using the main character’s heads of both games as the dots of the formation. As you can see it’s not a perfect circle here but in the end all I wanted was the energy and flow to translate but not necessarily to dominate the entire image. So at every opportunity I tried to warp the lineart to mimic that flow to a certain extent. I hope it came out alright!

just voted for the colored version it was soooo tough, all 5 are very impressive it came down to either andrew or chad. Chad seemed to capture the duality a bit further than any of the others. Im still gonna upload my colored take at it though.

no worries. I emailed mine but I got a response that I'm not eligible to win as non US citizen, but the guys at Capcom really liked my effort, which is cool.

how much freedom do we have with the colors? I never played Magic Sword and the images I've found to reference for colors aren't very helpful. Brilliant pencil work btw!

Next: can we get some reference material links for character colors? I've managed to locate a cover for an old "magic sword" game. The rest of the guys though, not sure who or what they're base color scheme is (before atmospheric choices and lighting alters them).
For instance... who's the dude at the bottom with the axe and what is his usual colors- hair eyes shirt bracers etc?
I know the guy with the sword is blond and the big guy above it (Cody?) is a blonde. Haggar's pic is all over too. Poison is of course scary popular...
So anyway, if anyone has some reference material for the colors that would be great.
Alvin, any objections to SFX additions to your lines?

Yes. It's in the official Final Fight/Street Fighter canon. Go like, buy a copy of Capcom Classics Collection vol. 1, or the January 2008 issue of EGM.
