There is some genuinely splendid detail here. How everyone seems to be wearing a first aid kit really adds to the sense of harsh frontiership with fragile false security, and - if it is not too bold a claim to make - the locomotive itself is nothing short of a masterpiece. Well comparable to the heavy metal heroes of Rodney Matthews, if in a drastically different style.
Not so certain about the helmet/mask designs, however. The indicator lights do give a very nice colour balance, but the general design clashes a lot with the overall urbanised industrial atmosphere; as if they were designed for a film with the intent of conveying futurism alone, or for a video game with the sole design philosophy that this is the style contemporary video games commonly follow. But, perhaps that contrast is the point.
Read among past comments that you spend a lot of time waiting for trains. Can relate to that well, not as a commuter, but taking a long semi-weekly train ride for the past fourteen years. There is a brightly glowing plastic smartphone in nearly every hand, but the seats are filled with the same foam plastic as in 1993, the tables the same wood chip as in 1969; the rails still the same fairly uncomplex steel alloy as in 1930. Presumably in an industrial society there are always going to be different eras and design paradigms in fragile coexistence, as in the rugged dirty steamboat tugging the splendid Temeraire up the Thames - or in waiting for the train on a yet-imaginary Martian frontier.
