Description This is a handmade leather book that I made for my daughter, Desiree. The cover is a hand carved music design that Desiree drew herself. The beaded bookmark is made of blue cloisonne beads with silver accents, and a braided strap holds the book closed.

The paper in this one was not made by me, but I did make the rest of this book myself.

If anyone wants to purchase a handmade book, I might have one for sale here: [link] . Or feel free to contact me. I would be happy to custom make one just for you!

Wow, that's beautiful, with something I'm sure isn't easy.

Thank you very much!

It gets easier with practice. I started out just wanting to make a journal that I could write a novel in. The writing is going so badly that I find myself making more journals for other people!

Aw. Unfortunately I know how you feel. But I can almost promise that your writing is good. Usually if you have that much passion for something, you will be good at it, because it is genuine and deep.

That's really nice! I'm always wondering how the pages are held into a book like that...is the sewing complicated to do? Also, is that a mystery braid you have there for holding the book closed? Very cool idea! The colour is great - very well done; congrats!

No, it's not complicated at all. It has to be simple for me to do it. The leather lacing binds the signatures directly to the spine.

I'm looking into other bookbinding techniques, but they are more complicated, and I'm not sure if I can do it or not. It requires different tools and supplies from the ones I have, so it will be a while before I can bind my books in another way.

I quite like this method of binding, so I'll probably continue doing it this way for some books, even when I learn a new way.

Thank you very much for the compliments. You really made my day.
