I mentioned in the D.Gray-Talk livestream that I like to give each of my characters a distinct set of facial features that separates them from one another, but I doubt anyone besides me really pays attention to details like these, haha. So, I thought I'd make a reference for it and go over some of the specifics!Riche

-Short, rounded nose
-Low bridge of the nose
-Tall forehead height
-Sunken-in forehead and brows
-Short, bushy eyebrows
-Rounded chin
-High, thin eyelids
-Attached earlobes
-Hair parts towards the front of the head
-Straight hairline
-Thick, curly, short, dark hair
-Pale skin tone
-Slender neck
Silverton
-Average jawline definition
-Short, pointed nose
-Low bridge of the nose
-Average forehead height
-Long, bushy eyebrows
-Detached earlobes
-Hair parts towards the back of the head
-Straight hairline
-Straight, medium length, mid-toned hair
-Average white skin tone
-Crooked neck
-Shoulders slump forward
Drek
-Highly defined jawline
-Long, pointed nose
-High bridge of the nose
-Short forehead height
-Protruding-out forehead and brows
-Long, thin eyebrows
-Sharper chin
-Narrow eyes
-Low, hooded eyelids
-Attached earlobes
-Hair parts towards the middle of the head
-Widow's peak
-Thin, straight, long, light hair
-Tanned skin tone
-Muscular neck
There are a few other things I could point out, but I'm leaving it at that for now. Either way, this really helped to convey something important to their designs:
**Riche and Drek are opposites and Silverton is the middle ground.**
This is how I designed them from the get-go. This rule includes their body types, heights, weapon types, fighting styles, and personalities as well.
Hopefully this was a little helpful or at least interesting to someone lol. I love my characters, and I want to share that love with everyone else ^^ You can find more info on these three girls on my main profile page (just look to the right and you'll see them)

The biggest difference I focus on when drawing my charas are the eyes since they're the windows to the soul, secondly the nose and jawline, and finally the ears and rarely mouths.
Yet looking at this is making me want to be more defined too. I'm honestly impressed, I guess that's why I love your works so much since they're all so distinct. Great job Alys!!

I do like to try and keep each character distinctly different, although there are plenty of times when I'm a bit inconsistent with it. But hey, at least I'm trying lol. It's actually really fun to mess around with individual character face shapes, same goes for body types. I'd like to get better at branching out even further with that.
Something I didn't touch on here was that each one of them also is meant to have a very different smile. Silverton's cheeky smile was always my favorite, and Riche has a much more timid smile. I should definitely draw them more often.

You didn't need to, I can see that and their different personas oozing out just from their different eye shapes and positions. Riche seems like the gentler of the three, Drek def looks more mature, and Lys looks like she's up to no good or is it overconfidence? You really did a good job with them

Drek is the oldest, but if I really think about it, she's probably the least mature. Or at least she's the most naive and narrow-minded. I'd say Riche is the most mature one, and she is definitely the typically gentle-natured one (even if she has her moments where she loses her temper as well). And Silverton definitely has an over-confident attitude, even though she's more insecure than she lets on. They all look one way, but might not act in exactly the way they look. Like most people, they tend to put up facades to hide their true emotions.

I think it's really interesting that you gave them distinct face shapes. I'd like to do that to, but somehow I can never really decide on a look xD
Maybe once my drawings become more consistent I can try something like that too

Sometimes I draw them inconsistently, but this is always what I know them to look like.
I actually learned to do this sort of thing by studying the character designs in Soul Eater, it was good fun and quite a learning experience ^^
I'd love to see something like this for your OCs ^^
