Nor could I find a werewolf. Only shapeshifters.

That book definitely killed vampires. Here, i had always assumed it was the darkness and mystery in them that made them such complex creatures. Books like that make you wonder if ANYONE researches when they write books anymore.
On top of that, now you have all these middle school kids that swear they are gonna marry a vampire. Good luck with that, any real vampire would probably eat them before they knew what hit 'em.

So true.
I think the BEST kind of vampires are the ones in underworld. Really, badass blood thirsty vampires vs. glittery, emotionally complex, homosexual teen vampires... Who would win?

Well, I'm not really into Underworld, I won't lie to you.
But yes, they'd totally win.
As for me, though I love almost every kind of vampires, the one badass, blood thirsty, sexy sob would be Alucard, but we all know that.

Im not so shure if Meyer, sparkly vampires are out of her imagination, it seems that she did made some research, or at least thats what ive found over the wikipedia, yeah I know, really serious research lol, anyways, the point is that the article on vampires said that on some towns back there at Europe, people belived that the vampires could be under the sun, and/or not only drink human blood, but eat human flesh, also, some of them thinked that a vampire could move to another town and live a normal life if he wished to, also about the vampire-human hybrids, and vampire pregnancy..., again, is at the wiki, so this may be placed by a fan or something, still, even if vampires are to sparkle under the sun, instead of burn, I still like Anne Rice vampires better...

I have a book about vampires, vampires myths all around the world, some of them drink human blood, others eat human flesh, others feeds of corpses, others from, literally, crap.
The vampire myth is huge, almost every culture has a vampiric figure in it, female, males, ugly and good looking, the variations are amazing and really really interesting.
Yes, maybe Meyer happened to chose another kind of vampire, not the ones we all know, and it is a good move considering the fact that variety is always good, and if that is the point then a lot of people failed to understand that.
However the problem with Meyer's vampires is not only the fact that her vampires shine, and that they drink animal blood, but that they act mainly as good people trying to live without harming anyone, not even bad guys...Human lovers, something like Louis from Anne Rice, but even he decided to feed from humans after a while.
Vampires, despite every romantic interpretations, are dangerous predators, and that's something that simply doesn't change, no matter what kind of vampires are they, Meyer failed in that part, she created "Happy cool vampires" as the heroes, and the original fierce vampires as the villians, is somehow a perversion of the whole thing.
Or at least that's what I bealive.
Yes, Anne Rice vampires are the best!

You win! This is precisely the point I try to get across to others. I call Meyer's creatures "Vampires For Lack of a Better Term".

I used to call them "Glitter-clad mosquitoes" but then I figured out that giving them a term was to much work, and they didn't diserve it.
So they passed to be "Those things"

Also a perfectly acceptable term. Not that Meyer doesn't deserve some credit - she can write. Not superbly, not even very well, but she did write an entertaining story. I just don't believe she met her idea all the way to the end before cranking out four novels.

Meyer wouldn't know what a true vampire is if it bit her (no pun intended). And as much as I have joked about them being faeries, they're not even that. They're reject faeries because the real fae got tired of being equated with them. Ugh. Meyer needs to be banned from writing.

Well yes, I agree about the faeries thing as well, her creatures are just so...dunno, they need a new name, they don't match anything known in mythology or tales and al that kind of things.
About Meyer being banned from writing I must say she isn't that bad, I read "The Host" and even if it won't reach the "Best Book" chart I must say it shows that Meyer can actually create characters and interesting situations, even if the Marie Sue complex is always present.
What I'm trying to say is that she can write, but she just can't write good things.

If she hadn't called them vampires but called them some weird name and said they were some branch of vampires I could deal. Though her writing is still atrocious. I read the Host and it was just as bad as Twilight. She misuses words and her style overall is just boring. Her story ideas aren't that interesting to me. But then again I tend to read beyond "Young Adult" books more often than not.

Well in the Young Adult section I recommend L.J Smith's Nightworld. I also recommend Tamora Pierce's books (The Song of the Lioness series and The Immortals series).
However I tend to read fantasy novels. My current favorite is Susanna Clark's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. But I'd recommend reading the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Really great books.
And I can understand about English being your second language. It's like she used words she didn't understand because they sound smart.

IT's because SMeyer didn't do any research.
The entire series is essentially just her telling teenagers that they should LOVE their creepy, emotionally disturbed pedo-stalkers.
Also, Abortion is wrong. Even if the child is EATING YOUR UTERUS.

You forgot the "overprotective" thing in your description, It's one of the ugliest things in Edward...Well I hate him, but anyway.
Yes I do bealive she didn't took a single second for research, she just tried to remember the vampire stuff, and failed completely.
Abortion is bad even if the baby is eating your uterus, I guess that's true, but in any case I would consider, dunno, it is creepy.
Anway, I'm not planning to get pregnant anytime soon so whatever.
