My submission into 's contest. The theme? Take a "sea-critter and...alter it". I could have made up something like a normally do, but I wanted to see how I would fair with not only machinery (as atolm herself does on occasion) but computer art as well. No, I don't have a tablet, so I drew the lineart irl and then scanned it and then took 6-7 hours coloring this on Paint Shop Pro 9. (that's during my "camping" trip, which pretty much sucked, except for Friday) Yes, my ass hurt after sitting for that long. XD

Background info: I don't know why I did a Bowhead whale...I probably got inspired after watching the specials on the Poles on Blue Planet...and also because I don't see these whales get a lot of love in art.

Functions: Not only did I try to make it look cool, I wanted to make it efficient too. Since they're slow-moving, I figured a Bowhead whale could be used for other things, mostly for cleaning up oil spillage (in which the fluid goes into the black tanks via drainage holes in the metal). They can also be used as transportation of supplies and whatnot. =3

Reflection: I think for my first time doing a complete pic (BG & concentration) on the computer, I did a really good job. I especially like how the baleen came out...up close it looks pretty realistic. I also must note the yellow pipes - I don't regret making them bright, but I still feel they are sloppy, even though I spent so much time on it (not once did I get lazy!) =\ Whatever.

EDIT: Well, the verdict is in! I won third place in atolm's contest! I am so satisfied, considering there were many many great entries. (As a note to myself, I recieved a 3-month sub as a prize. THANK YOU ATOLM!)
