She waited patiently as Noah babbled on, his train of thought so forward and singular that Carmen wondered just how many stories the boy kept churning in his head.
He spoke earnestly of knights in shining armor, princes, princesses, fantasies and love-- the book she was reading to him wasn't related to the words he said now, but the idea of a copper knight blurted from his lips as Carmen began to explain the tesla coil to the younger boy.
"She'd have a big swirly sword," Noah exclaimed, raising a finger and tracing circles in the air, looking up at Carmen with his matching steel eyes. "And a beautiful face! Because knights are beautiful."
"That's true."
"Maybe she'd look like you."
Carmen pressed her lips to the mop of dark hair on his head, eyes scanning the pages of the book again, silent for a long time.
"Maybe."

i tried to think of different ways carmen might unwind. reading books with her younger brother probably qualifies.
he's very... idealistic.
