Such a wonderful piece, I love the wingspan and the face of the dragon, but most of all the beautiful color scheme. It's simple, but the colors compliment each other nicely and it's just awesome.

Thanks so much! There are several things that could be improved, but I really like the colour scheme <3

The amazing thing about artwork is that there's always something that can be improved. Therefore you always have a purpose in artwork!

Now THAT is the perfect way of looking at it! I'll have to remember it when I'm through one of those 'my art is never going to good enough" phases XD

I try not to have that mindset, though I understand that it's hard sometimes. I try to focus mostly on the experience, and if I don't like a picture I try to finish it anyways. Then I say to myself, "Well why didn't it work out? Okay, it was that and that...I'll need to learn better for the next picture!"

Also I know a lot of people who obsess over their pictures looking horrible, and compare their work constantly to other people. Which is really sad because just our ability to create things makes all artwork beautiful.

And thats a pretty good one.

I know that making good art is important, especially as someone who is trying to make a career of it, but even so, some people do judge themselves based on others too much

I think art is one of those things where unless you're working professionally you need to enjoy it above all else.

Unfortunately, if you're looking at it on a professional level, the issue becomes finding enjoyment in a project you might not want to do. If you work in an office they expect you to draw every single day regardless of whether or not you "feel like it" so you need to sort of tough it out and just draw. Or if you're a freelancer you need to be able to take commissions and follow guidelines set by the commissioner.

Still, I think even with commissions and things you can find a way to enjoy the project. :3

Theres always a way to enjoy a commission! I do a fair few of them, and I absolutely love it. The only problem is when I start freaking myself out and trying too hard to do my best. Of course there are bits that arn't so nice, like characters you don't like, or the commissioner being really fussy, and things, but thats all just a part of the job.

Do you accept feedback for this piece?

In all honesty I'm in two minds about that. I'm not entirely satisfied with how the piece came out, and there are certain aspects (such as the horrendous mountains) that I know could most certainly be improved etc, and which I know how to fix. But you're welcome to

Mainly the thing that struck me was noticing that method I mentioned earlier, of using a different scaling to have more detail in such a style.

I think in this case, you used too big a scale for the dragon, certain lines became very thin, particularly at the wings.
So I was confused whether you wanted to raise that from the background or have it be a part of it. Because of the mountains and number of detail on the lower part of it, it is kind of drowned out.

Maybe you could go over the dragon with a few additional strokes, hues, something to give it some substance, possibly make the lines seem thicker?

Or work with the fact that it's likely large and in perspective, so take into account grading of different places depending on distance because of the air, to give it a bit more depth to have it pop more from this background.

Just simple strokes, but those are ideas to play around with, I think.

Thanks for the feedback. The dragon was originally going to be large and in the foreground, but it looked terrible, so I resized it and moved it back. I actually noticed that the lines became terribly thin, but when I tried making the lines thicker they just looked clumsy rather than aiding in any way
Thanks again

I think it was more to do with the choice of pose than anything. I believe you should avoid depth and perspective with this style.
