Description My secret santa for ! You have no idea how excited I was when I got who is one of my favorite artists. If you love pokemon, she does amazing pokemon art, if you like Nuzlockes, hers is one of my favourites out there, if you don't like either of the above, just her style is mouth watering. She requested something of her characters from her Nuzlocke, so here is Fenrir and Solveig. I can imagine the two on a cliff somewhere, and Sol just enjoying the view, while Fenrir is just his usual self that makes you simultaneously want to kick him and hug him.

This piece was a HUGE learning experience, I can't say I'm too practised at traditional backgrounds, and CLIFFS, that cliff was giving me nightmares. So critiques are more than welcome! On everything from anatomy to technique to compositions to colour to my very fail clouds.

Enough rambling for now, we're about to get hit by a mega storm. Merry Christmas everyone!

Ah, it should have been very nice gift indeed! I don't know the artist you mention, though. But I should drop by
You know, I don't really comprehend how you do that, but your works most of the time have the feelings in the first plan. Only then you see the actual picture. I didn't need to read the description to see what's goin on here It's really lovely

Aww thanks so much!

If you're a fan of pokemon, nuzlockes, or even just really well made art, you should definitely check them out!

This is such a wonderful piece! I love it so much, you have no idea. Not only is it a perfect portrayal of the relationship of these two, but the art is also really beautiful. This could as well be canon, I can clearly imagine these two sitting on a cliff, Sol enjoying the view and the whole situation and Fenrir trying to find at least one reason to be grumpy, even if he's secretly enjoying it.
I certainly enjoy it, and not even secretly. I really like the style and the technique used in this picture. You're very good at traditional art, don't lose that. It feels like less people do traditional art these days. Anyway, I like the way you have coloured it. The contrast values are just perfect, the things in front being darker and the horizon being lighter, and they create a nice impression of depth. I also like the attention you've put in the details. The hierarchy is very good. I also like the composition, the way the characters are placed in the top of the image boost the impression of a very high cliff. The only critique that comes to my mind is that to me it seems the characters could have a bit more space around them, mostly in front of and above them.
You drew Sol and Fenrir so nicely, I love how they both look. The details are great, Sol's wing, Fenrir's fluffy fur. I also like it how Sol's wing shelters Fenrir.
Overall really beautiful piece, I love it so much I can't think of anything else to say. Thank you so much!

fffft I'm so late at replying to this, I'm sorry! Thanks so much for your amazing, comment, I'm so happy that you like it. I love your works, both your nuzlocke and pokemon art and your other stuff, so I was incredibly happy to get an excuse to make you fanart. I did struggle with the compositions a bit, and I completely agree with you on the space factor, I couldn't seem to find a composition that fit in a tall cliff and everything else, but I shall continue to work on it in the future
Again, I'm really happy that you like it <3

Now it's my turn to apologize for the lateness. I should really clean up my messages more often. Anyway, you're very welcome! I'm glad to hear that you like my art and Nuzlocke so much. And yeah, tall cliffs and stuff like that might be a bit tricky composition wise but that's another thing that can be improved with practise. :>

So, so super gorgeous.
The cliffs look very cool, and the sky is simply beautiful. I'm always amazed by how solid your colours look, y'know? Normally when I draw with colour pencils they tend to look faded, but yours always look like they were drawn with pastels, but without the ickyness of pastels. I'm not making any sense. But it still looks very cool nonetheless! And how you somehow manage to layer colours (I see dat purple thar) makes it even better.

Thank you my great rusty! The secret to the solid colours is that I can't draw with colour pencils, AND I can't paint, so I do them both XD For some reason my paints colours tend to get really faded and pale and boring. I painted it first with watercolour, then coloured it with watercolour pencil, then painted that, and then drew over that, so its about 3 layers <3

Aaah, so that's your secret! I've heard that artists layer drawings, but they always say that they use fixative between layers. Do you use it as well or do you just draw/paint directly on the other layer?
And nonsense obviously you can draw with colour pencils and paint, you silly goose.
Thanks for the tip, Doodleloo! I must try it.

Oh really? That is news to me! I usually just keep layering. My first layer will be okay, my second layer will mess it up, my third layer will be fix it.... that sort of thing
DOOO EEEEEEETTTT

RustyBlou In reply to Amadoodles [2013-01-16 21:05:04 +0000 UTC]

Apparently, yes! I am yet to try it though, but I'm curious to see if it will make a difference.
Yikes, sounds scary. D: I'd panick if one layer messed up the previous one... does this mean that your layers are always in odd numbers?

I SHALL

Yeah, all my art seems to be a balancing act of messing it up improving it, messing up the improvement, improving it even more.... sometimes it wastes quite a bit of time, but it usually works out

Cliffs are cool! Rivers are cool! The 43 people who faved this and didn't leave comments are not quite so cool! Have fun with the mega storm! (but seriously, stay safe.)

I think it's Awesome Artist's Disease. Like, everyone thinks you're such a good artist and so busy that you don't have the time and can't be bothered with their comments. xD
