I dunno, but I didn't end up eating it. I would imagine that it would taste like any other homemade yogurt...which is pretty yummy, but I try to avoid food coloring.

Awww, yeah, I didn't eat it yet...not sure if it's any good anymore. It's still in the fridge...kinda weird now. Thanks!

Ahh, now I understand how you shaped the yogurt so precisely to allow for a little scrambling in the condensation. Excellent. I'm even inspired to try it myself if you don't mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

amarand In reply to chafe [2006-03-21 03:23:54 +0000 UTC]

The yogurt was "shaped" by pouring the yogurt mixture into the container before it hardened with the metal "cookie cutter" in the middle. Halfway through, I added food coloring after it mostly set-up. Then the rest is simply removing the metal and adding the plastic wrap.

Awww...well, what part do you need help with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

terraskewl In reply to amarand [2006-03-09 20:20:10 +0000 UTC]

The making it part, what temperature do i leave the milk out at? And how do i make sure it doesn't turn sour? Stuff like that, lol, thanks amarand, you're sweet...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

amarand In reply to terraskewl [2006-03-10 03:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, you boil the milk to about 200F to 210F...and then let it cool down to about 100F before adding the culture and non-fat dry milk. At no time is the milk "left out" unless you're working from a different recipe than I'm using. It's either cold in the fridge (as milk), boiling, cooling to 100F, or "cooking" for eight hours.

terraskewl In reply to amarand [2006-03-10 21:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Aha! I'll try it i think, if i can ever find eight hours of time.... lol.

thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

amarand In reply to terraskewl [2006-03-11 03:12:43 +0000 UTC]

Of course you can start it, then leave it alone for eight hours.

Oh totally! Yeah, when it's pristine like this...smooth, brightly lit...the yogurt looks almost like chocolate. Now I wish it were chocolate. Now I wish I -had- some chocolate.
