Description Yes, I've done another rant, this time directed to the morons who love to flame Twilight every chance they get.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes the anti-Twilight jokes are pretty funny, and I've insulted the characters once or twice myself, but seriously, people, no one wants to hear you bitching every five days.

Other Rants:
Mary Sues - [link]

Neji (c) Masashi Kishimoto
Twilight (c) Stephenie Meyer (who is better at writing than most of you anti-Twitards)

I'm not trying to 'belittle' or 'criticize' Stephenie Meyer with my next bit. *Ahem*
First of all, I don't think she's a terrible writer, I actually quite like her style of writing, but really?! Paragraphs about Edwards eyeballs? Come on. Also, self sacrificing, dooming myself to live in a small hick town for my mothers happiness OMFG this sucks Bella? She is a total bitch. AND THEN.... Not only does edward fall in love with her, but Jacob the smexy werewolf does to?! WTH?
If Meyer wrote something actually had a plot, then I would read it. Not Twilight bull about vampires and werewolves falling in love with really boring girls.

AND VAMPIRES DON'T FREAKING SPARKLE!!!!!!

I under stand were your coming from. The only thing that really makes me angry is, it's not the book, it's the movies. They kinda ruined it. I'm not trying to start anything here because I don't feel like being hated by the many who do like the movies. And if any one reading this is, please don't take offense. I loved the books. It was a great series but they could have done a lot better on the movies. Thx for fighting for the series and Stephenie.

Yes, I agree with you there. The movies sucked. They only barely stayed original to the books, and it seemed to me like Stephenie didn't put her foot down about hardly any of the details. I'm not here to dispute that at all - I just want people to grow some brains. XD

1. Jase, do you two do this often?

2. Though I've never even heard of Twilight, and didn't feel like watching the movie, I (I guess) agree with the author of this rant.

If you mean leaving random comments on each others' work because we're siblings, then yes, yes we do.

And thankies for agreeing!

Hey, while I'm not a big fan of Twilight (I don't understand the meaning behind Sparkly Vampires unless somebody tells me), I'm not about to diss it in front of the (probably) millions of fans it has, because the next thing I know, I'll be shot down by Twilight readers from around the globe. And I don't want that, frankly. I'm not sure there's anybody who enjoys getting beat the crap out of by an entire fanbase because they pissed it off.

"celebrities/role models"

While there's nothing to say about the "celebrity" part (I mean, she IS famous), I totally disagree about the "role model" part. She is no role model. She adopts an irresponsible behaviour and looks mentally unstable. She hides from reality and doesn't accept critics, which, for an author as famous as she is, is despicable. She also promotes a bad image of the women and of the ideal relationship.
I don't want anybody to act or think like her, and I'm not the only one. I don't want my little sister to think it's OK to be stalked by someone way older than her if that someone is pretty and looks younger than he/she actually is. I don't want her to think that girls are weak princesses that have to be rescued by princes. While those points can make a good plot, it is in no way applicable in real life. Our grandmothers fought to be considered as equals - we are not going to act like weak-minded puppets just to be like Meyer said good was.

I won't start a rant about Twilight - you did it just now, after all. And I never did rants. (*shrugs*)

Now, about your submission.

Being vulgar doesn't help at all when you try to get a point across. Even if it's a rant, there are better ways to make people understand your point of view than swearing.

"... you don't care for the author or book when the subject is brought up"
This is also why rants are to be kept in journals.

The art here is quite poor: I see that it is exactly the same as the one in your Mary-Sue rant (which I don't approve of, by the way - but that's not the point here). The only differences are the floating head and your eyes.

I think that if you really want to keep rants as actual submissions, you should consider submit them as texts instead of pixel-art. It's not like you really did something about the art since last rant. *shrugs*

I hope that you will understand that I tried to be polite, and as such, I don't think I would deserve another vulgar rant like this one.

Oh? And what exactly has Stephenie done that is SO vulgar and demeaning? Oh, I know - she acts like a normal person, right?

When you say Meyer isn't a role model, you sound like you're speaking for everyone who knows her. She is a role model to some people - like me, for example - so perhaps "she isn't a good role model" or "she isn't MY type of role model" would have been better.

And how has she portrayed women or relationships in a negative light? I didn't see Bella selling herself to anyone, doing drugs, or sleeping with two guys at once. Nor did I see any physical or mental abuse in her relationship with Edward or Jacob.

And Edward is 117. Obviously, it's almost impossible for humans to live that long, and while I admire the fact that you're trying to keep your sister safe, I think you're overdoing it. As you said, it is in no way applicable to real life. Meyer isn't trying to brainwash anyone - as you seem to be implying - so if your sister or any other girl or woman go off thinking that they should live exactly the way Bella does, well, that's sort of their fault, isn't it?

And how does Bella portray the damsel in distress? In Twilight, she faced James so that her family would not be brought into her mess. In New Moon, she faced the Volturi to save Edward. In Eclipse, she almost sacrificed herself to give Edward an edge over Victoria. In Breaking Dawn BELLA was the one who kept all the vampires with mental gifts at bay. Now, how does that add up to being a "weak princess"?

As for my submission, I could care less what you think about the vulgarity, and I'm not the only person on this site to do rants as deviations. Yes, I copy and pasted the art, but that's because my focus was on the rant. Besides, I'm new to drawing on MS-Paint - the less work I have to do, the better.

And if you don't like the Mary Sue rant, that's your problem, not mine. Please comment on that piece, if you must.

So sorry to have ranted again, though I thank you for being relatively polite.

I don't know why I even reply, seeing as you obviously did nothing to look amiable (irony isn't amiability - but then, forgive me if this last line wasn't irony), but I wouldn't like you to misunderstand what I said.

I didn't say anything about Meyer being vulgar or demeaning. While she does describes girls in a demeaning way, I didn't see her being vulgar or her being directly demeaning. I did say something about her as a role model saying demeaning things. (I like this word... demeaning... I just learnt it and it's fabulous...)

She really isn't a role model - I said all I had to say on "why she isn't" and will not come to it again.
I didn't imply Meyer is trying to brainwash anyone. Seriously, no. But people behave like their role models say is good and bad. If little girls start behaving like Bella, while it IS their fault (I didn't say it wasn't), it is also because of their bad choice as a role model. My entire first paragraph in my first reply was about why Meyer can't be a role model - please, if you still don't get what I was saying, go back and read it again.

About portraying women and relationship in a negative light.
There is mental abuse in Edward and Bella's relation: he has too much authority on her, and basically decides what she can or can not do. As I read the books some time ago, I don't have any example, but I can redirect you to the "Twilight sucks" website which, while being too extreme to be actually pertinent most of the time (again, swearing and generally bad attitude - what you are ranting against, I guess), has valid points.
Bella is very negatively described: she actually agrees with the Man, Edward, over the mental abuse. When he is a jerk (I'm sorry, I can't think of other words) with her in book one, she likes him. When he stalks her, she likes him even more. When he stops her from doing what she wants by using force, she forgive him too quickly to really think about it (it was about visiting and a car, I think). She doesn't exist as an individual person any more: she explicitly states so when her life becomes blank without Edward (the blank pages).
While this is a part of love, it is too extreme to be only that: unless Bella and Edward are in a BDSM relationship that is unknown to us readers, this is psychological abuse.

On a lighter note. I wasn't speaking about my personal tastes when I wrote that being vulgar doesn't help. I was serious. You can open any book on debating (and ranting is a form of debating when you submit it on such a public place) and it will tell you that being cold-headed is the first step for others to acknowledge your point.

If you wish to reply to this, please note that I am going to sleep and may not reply again before at least ten hours. It is currently 04:48 am where I live, and I need my beauty sleep .

Now I'm not going to try and start some long winded debate, since I don't feel qualified from not having read much of it.

But the thing you said about "would not have made it pass the editors", I remember hearing Mrs. Meyer say some where that her story got turned down by several editors (it might have been like nine or something) before Twilight got published.

And I bet you've probably heard this a lot, but just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. (I'm just saying!)

AmaranthFlamesoul In reply to tiffychan86 [2009-07-12 01:59:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but it wouldn't have made it past ANY editors.

And before she came along, vampires and werewolves were kind of out of style... At least in my town...

As for that popularity bit, it really comes down to a matter of opinion. The way some people talk about her, you'd think EVERYONE hates her books, you know?
