Description This is my dragon OC Ti'Kara! She's been uploaded at the request of I was using a new shading technique and this is my first try at the water effect on her fins and wings and neck. There's a little bit of texture on the reflective surfaces and that lighting at the bottom - maaaan I like this style fav.me/d19rbok

She's a water dragon and she travels anywhere where there's water. She can travel on dry land and whatnot, so long as she can dunk in water because it helps the protective properties of her skin. There's a star design in her eye but you can't see it at this resolution.

I won't give away all the details about her but man I love 'er =3

You may not use Ti'Kara at all without permission but if you want to color the lines go here . You don't have to stick to this color scheme - and send me a link so I can see it!

made an awesome gift sketch for me of Ti'Kara for Christmas 2011!!

Some other people have colored her too!Β

She's great! I do love all her whiskery tendrils, and the water pattern on her really does look like the light shining through water, I also like the reflective blue under her, it adds a bit more depth!

Yay! The water pattern was hardest to get looking acceptably but I'm glad it turned out great
I was studying some coloring guides while I was coloring her and they said that when shading a 3d object it's always lit from two sides, a primary, harsh light and a secondary reflective glow light. The style I colored her in was sooooo much fun to do. Kinda want to try it again…Hmmmmz...

I feel your pain lol, they're tricky things to paint!
Oh yes that's true, reflective light is one of my faves, but red is like the most difficult of lights for me to actually use, blue is the best And it's such a co-operative reflective light too

Thank you Midnight!

I'm really liking the new style and I think I'll stick with this method. I can't wait to color more

Wow..I can't stop staring at it. It's so beautiful! I especially love that you chose to do a WATER dragon! The water lighting is absolutely gorgeous and her design is really well done. I would love to see more

Thank you~ The water was a little easier than I thought it would be.

More as in more dragons or more dragon elements? The later would be hard o.o

I was thinking more of Ti'Kara but different dragons would be cool too!

Haha Ti'Kara I can do Different dragons, hmmz. I have one more dragon lineart and he's a pair to Ti'Kara - they're in the same story. I suppose we'll see I want to experiment with scale effects eventually.

Oh dang. This coloring technique is beautiful! Keep using these techniques!

The reflected light looks great, although it's a little strong on the hind leg.

It would have been nice to see this one with a background - I had coral reefs in mind when I was watching the broadcast - but for a character rendition, the stark black nicely emphasizes the lighting.

Now I want to draw a coral reef. <3

I love it! I was glancing at a tutorial by another DA artist...if I find it I'll link it - mebeh

Yeah, I'm too lazy to go dull it down right now though

If I had confidence in my background ability I would have done corals in a dark hot pink and burgundy but I just wanted her to stand out as a character design this time. I just suck at backgrounds

....you know what, if you do I'm totally asking to reference it as a model for her background.

I saw it in the background of the Livestream. xD

I'm usually too lazy to ever go back to fix my mistakes. xD But I point out stuff like that simply as something to keep in mind for later.

Backgrounds are demanding. x_x
Hey, maybe I will do it. I've been planning a water scene for a while now! And of course you can reference it. You can reference anything in my gallery, actually. I know you're good about crediting. ;D But as far as backgrounds, I don't have many background-heavy drawings. Most of them are unfinished sketches or halfway through coloring. x_x

Yup, me too I actually went and changed it a bit

Yeah. I need to work on em.
=O Thank youuuu~ And yeah same here And then that random drawing comes along that deserves a nice background and I check on my skills for it and I'm like, "......FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!"

Practice helps a lot.
Ahaha, that happens to me all the time! "Oh, this would look great with a giant temple in the background! .... FUUUUUUUUUUU ARCHITECTURE!!!"

I now want to draw a giant temple - oh wait. I already did. The painting is halfway finished. It has been halfway finished for 4 months. x_____x FUUUUUUUUUUUU

Lol the same things happens to me xD I have the worst time with buildings. Organics are usually a bit easier for me but man....stuuuuuupid straight lines.

xD I wanna seeeeee~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Khezix In reply to AmaranthineRain [2011-06-16 02:01:58 +0000 UTC]

I could do anything organic background if I have the patience for it (the coral reef will be the ultimate test of patience x__x ) but the straight lines and PERSPECTIVE! Dx But I made a pretty bad ass fish bowl perspective of a steampunk city. I think I still have the scan, and I was thinking of fixing it up. c:

Haha, it's WIP time~ xD (I can get it up in a couple min)

Ugh, perspective x___x when I draw buildings, even when I did it in art class with a T-square ruler there were so many perspective lines everywhere!

=O Steampunk city!!!!
