And here’s one image on schedule! I will be posting the new challenge image every other Friday. Today, it’s Vylad! Man, what to say about this interesting character. Since I’m drawing characters only for season one for now, I’ll only be talking about Vylad from the knowledge of season one.

As I rewatched season one, I noticed a major change in the characterization of this mysterious character. As everyone can see in the first episode, Vylad was the one who led Aphmau to Phoenix Drop. You can see Garroth and Zenix attack him when Aphmau turns the corner, but he’s able to escape. You can sense tension between him and Gene in later episodes, and Vylad seems to watch over Aphmau for a period of time. Eventually, he’s imprisoned by the Shadow Knights and later escapes.

This drawing was a fun one to work on. I’ve always had trouble with profiles and the relation of the nose to the rest of the face, but I determined that a drawing with Vylad facing his back to us was perfect. He’s ended up turning away from his normal life, but he still tries to do his best help and protect those he loves. That’s why he’s still facing us.

I loved working on the shading and lighting the most. I don’t have very strong shadows in most of my drawings, so I decided to expierement more. Of course I used my own old drawing of Vylad as a reference for this. I’m debating on the idea to redraw many of my older works, since my style has changed so majority...
