Description This is a scene of "Die andere Seite", a novel written by the artist Alfred Kubin (my favourite artist), I illustrated for a seminar paper (for school) about him and his own illustration work in which the task for me was to copy his style (and of course to do a lot of writing, too). I have to say it didn't work with the figures in this one. Made it with mixed techniques: gouache, drawing ink and pigmentliner (plus even a bit of pencil colour).

The book is about an artist travelling to a kind of secret utopian town (called Pearl) where is everything still old-fashioned. A strange, paranormal force influences everything happening there and it seems to be connected to the town's 'king', a man called Patera. At some point those powers get out of control and then a new civilian, just called 'the American' appears in town and plans to start a revolution. That's when a kind of apocalypse is beginning to destroy everything Patera build. One of the many plagues that emerge is a rising masspopulation of animals crowding the streets. This illustration shows a scene where a tiger kidnaps a woman and carries her to the palace of Pearl.
