You don't often see Gabriel as a girl. I like.

Would you consider doing one of Archangel Ariel? She's female...

The word "Grace" comes to mind when viewing this painting. I love the gentle aspect of it & the feminine depiction of Gabriel which just seems so right. The moon behind her compliments the picture perfectly. And the jewelry is such a lovely touch & completes everything. And as for Gabriel's wings ... awesome doesn't begin to describe them! I particularly like the way you've depicted Gabriel looking off into the distance yet she gives a sense of knowing you're there, out the corner of her eye. It's as if she's saying "I'll be with you in a moment, Sweet Child ... the flowers are for you".

Thanks Sue.
Although this is more formal than many of my other paintings, it is filled with symbolism. Nothing in this painting is there by chance. The moon, lilies, ribbon and of course colours all have a deeper meaning.
It's strange with the wings. When I first started painting them, I just wasn't happy.....but when I let them develop on their own, ....well, my 'brush' took wings and they evolved.

Oh, a woman? Personally I see Gabriel as a male angel, but this image is not bad at all (plus, this interpretation is similar to that from manga called "Angel Sanctuary").
I really like the picture as a whole, and the single details from it: her expression, her hair, her wings, this heavy-looking necklace, and the sleeves of her dress. And you know wht this picture reminds me? An image from a calendar : ) Gabriel with this white dress and wings (and the light blue background) might be one of the winter months. December, I guess : )
Very nice work^^

Thank you. Angels seem to take on different forms, depending on the individual. I know most of my friends see Gabriel as a female entity.
She is after all the angel of pregnancy and childbirth, and associated with the moon and water - all feminine attributes.
But that's the joy of life - we are all different and see things differently.

Hehe, I see - and I must admit that female representation indeed makes more sense. But I'm influenced by old paintings on which angels were generally presented as males, and by one novel in which angels and demons were main characters (and Gabriel was male in it).

Thanks for your crit. As I've said before, gender is a matter of artist interpretation.
Everyone has their own opinion and beliefs, which is great.
And as artists, we have the freedom to depict anything we paint, draw or sculpt in any way our imagination comes up with. ....That's the beauty of art.
We all interpret things differently, as our cultures, belief systems and upbringing impacts on our art too.
Through the ages art styles have changed and they will continue to do so. That's what I love about art - freedom to imagine anything and change everything.
So irrespective of the subject matter, whether we paint angels, fairies, dragons, etc. they will always vary from person to person.
As they say in French...... 'vive la diffΓ©rence'

No problem - we all have our own opinions. Life would be so boring if we all thought the same and believed the same things.

Really, really, really beautiful!
Concerning the gender, I thought that Angels were asexual...

Many thanks.
Yes, as I commented on another message, they have both feminine and masculine energies.
It is how we personally perceive them that determines what picture forms in our minds of them.
