Description This one's not completed. But I really like how it's going. I unfortunately photographed it at this weird angle so LOL Zel's face looks squished. Will rephotograph soon.

Zelgadiss Greywords (my third favorite character in Slayers, next to Xelloss and Filia) is the guy, and Princess Amelia wil Teszla Saillune is the girl. They are another of the wonderful motif of OPPOSITES COMBINING TO MAKE A BETTER, MORE FULFILLING, AND HARMONIOUS WHOLE which is the WHOLE POINT of the Slayers series, especially TRY. Being with someone who is like you is almost never ideal--you get bored with each other or you feel threatened with each other stepping on your territory. That is why I don't really see Lina and Zelgadiss, or Lina and Xelloss, or Amelia and Gourry, or any of those alternate pairings that seem so popular. They'd be entertaining and interesting flings. But they wouldn't last. Lina and Xelloss in particular would probably accidentally destroy the world and be an utter disaster, even though it would be a great read in a fanfiction. That's the only reason why he likes her anyway--she's a snack machine for chaotic meals.

Rather, people are best with COMPATIBLE but DIFFERENT partners. People who grasp and accept their needs and failings, and fill up spaces which are empty in their own abilities and personalities. This is why I support every Slayers canon pairing, except maybe Lina/Gourry (and that because I only see romance between them in ONE scene at the end of the second season). They are comprised of people who are very different and yet make an excellent whole/team. In this pairing, Zelgadiss is the survivalist and level-headed one, and Amelia is the sweet, childlike one, whose idealism tempers his realism and almost nihilistic pessimism. Similarly, Xelloss is the pragmatist and Filia the idealist, and both act aggressively upon their beliefs and agendas, rendering them similar at the same time that they are different. The two are even described as "light and dark" in a prophecy that Filia has. YinYang much????

I really hate it when someone says he/she hates a pairing because he/she hates one of the people in that pairing (esp if he/she hates the GIRL in the pairing, because honestly it makes me think that deep down that person is just fangirling and being kinda sexist and drooling over the guy sorry but it's true). I mean if you hate Filia, I'm sorry that's fine, hate her, but don't use that to say she wouldn't be with Xelloss, because it doesn't mean *HE* hates Filia. Likewise with finding Amelia irritating and finding Zelgadiss awesomely badass. Just because you aren't compatible with her doesn't mean HE isn't

You know I've been thinking really hard about this, after talking to some close friends who really seem to HATE this pairing as well as the Lina/Gourry one and even the Xelloss/Filia one. I tried to see their viewpoint...but I just can't. I mean I REALLY tried to squint for context clues that there are better alternate pairings but it's just a no-go for me. I'm sorry. Agreeing to disagree is a great policy sometimes though

One individual (she knows who she is ) accused me of feeling the way I felt strictly because of "personal preferences." I tried to shrug this off but it has started to bother me a bit To be honest, that's not an accurate assessment of ME, much less of this series. If it IS a personal preference, it is such because I FORM my opinions on factual observations and painstaking analysis/dissection of characters, plots, and psychological constructs. So when I put forth that I support a canon pairing, it's not because I am a bleating fansheep or a sentimental fangirl--it's because I REALLY believe that pairing would WORK in REAL LIFE, based on REAL and LONG PONDERED OBSERVATION. The only reason why I'm not really pissed about this is they're FICTIONAL and thus not all that important, certainly not important enough to start an argument So don't panic, Unnamed-She. Life's too short.

Anyway basically this is my delayed pairings rant I guess, not just for Slayers but in general. I support ANY pairing, gay or straight, canon or fanon, AS LONG AS I SEE CONTEXTUAL EVIDENCE SUPPORTING THAT IT WOULD WORK. For instance, I HATE the pairing of Ron and Hermione in Harry Potter, yet there is evidence that THEY DO WORK, and therefore I allow and support it, even though my "personal preferences" are actually AGAINST it Savvy?

Anyway enjoy. I may finish it sometime.
