Thank you for your kind words! I think that maybe you are confusing the shades and tones of the leg with the anatomy. I appreciate your point of view

Yeah I might of, I was looking at the leg and was like 'What in the world?' But Your art is still beautiful to my jacked up eyes still! XD

Thanks for the Llama!

I definitely think this is a wonderful, classic pencil piece. The detail that you included within the hair, markings, and motion is excellent - and very visually captivating. Your knowledge and representation of proportions and wolf anatomy is perfect! I'd say that the strongest part of the piece is the extreme detail and movement even included with the hair - how it overlaps, moves, and has great depth to it. The blurred legs give good indication of movement as well. Only thing I would work on are the paws - most likely this is from a reference picture, however, I would say maybe adding some originality and allowing some deviation from the original picture - photographs can sometimes have awkward elements and positions to them. If you were to be a little more creative and adjust the paws just slightly so they were at a more conventional angle, it would set off the picture nicely. However, over all, wonderful piece, and definitely one of the more definitive pencil works I've seen in a long while. Well done!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such wonderful words! I totally agree with the paws but when I started I thought that cuting them would increase the sense of jumping out the paper, like jumping a gate.

You're very welcome! And thanks for the llama, too (while I'm at it). It's a very nice drawing. And he does look like he's jumping over a gate!
Always wished I could do pencil work better.

I think this is amazing, i love drawing animals. Any tips on getting better at it.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AmBr0 In reply to ellococrazy [2012-12-19 21:40:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
You must draw draw and draw. But you don't have to obsess in the drawing, reading some tutorials can help, but search your own style and sometimes and unexpectedly inspiration will come to you, don't let it pass by and catch it.
Try testing different materials (pencils, graphite, drawing paper) and don't be disappointed if the result it is not what you expected to be.
It's a hard path but with patience and passion you can't go wrong.

Humble advices but I hope that could be a little help!

ellococrazy In reply to AmBr0 [2012-12-21 02:25:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much. I have been drawing on paper with pencils and such for a while and then i switched to digital art and it was somewhat easier for me. Now i was never able to draw humans, so i stuck to drawing animals and i kove it. Does drawing using refferences help because รฎ can't draw straight from my mind. Thank you!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AmBr0 In reply to ellococrazy [2012-12-26 20:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Of course! using refferences is very useful to train your mind and hands. I think most of the stuff we want to plasm from imagination is inspired in something you've seen before.

This is brilliant! I was wondering (if you ever see this) if you might tell me what kind of paper you use? I'm experimenting with different kinds, trying to find something that works well for me. Thanks!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AmBr0 In reply to FleetastheWind [2012-11-18 18:45:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I think this one is Canson Basik but I usually use soft Bristol 250 g/m^2. I also use Canson Lineal sketch 160 g/m^2 similar to Bristol but with sepia tone, Canson Basik 130 g/m^2, also Derwent 110 gsm and Hahnemรผelle Sketch 90 g/m^2 good for charc. but thin.

I think it depends on the style or idea you want that graphite looks like. I think Canson Basik suits well with Merida drawing style and some animal sketches, and on the other hand Bristol for realism, soft and blended portraits.

granulated to softest: Basik, Derwent, Hahnemรผelle, Lineal,๏ปฟ Bristol

Hope it helps!

Thank you! This helps a ton! I think I'm going to try Bristol first, I've heard from several sources now that it's a good one to start with. Thanks!
