Description Um, just a rough sketch for my comic that I didn't use. I thought it looked pretty cool so I tried to finish it in Painter.

Painter 8 kicked my ass though. So you get this. Which I think is stylish but not what I wanted. =/

Those hands are so uberneat.

Thanks but the hands are such a pain sometimes. Drawing a character with only two fingers and a thumb tends to look odd. At least the claws help a bit to make it look cooler.

I think it looks really neat with the two fingers. All simple and neat and curved. And ouch claws.

That's so cool, I love the claws, and how you can't really see the face. It's really good ^^

Thanks. Heh, making a character into a silhouette is a cool effect it also shows you if the design is distinctive.

Yeah, that's the dirty water brush in Painter 8. I love that brush. Too bad everything else hates me so. Ugh. One day me and Painter are going to be friends.

Wooo... it may have not been exacly what you wanted, but I think it came out nice! I love the way the light and dark interplay.

Yeah, I do think this came out nice looking. I really wanted it to have like those cool nefty Painter backgrounds but I don't know how to do that so instead I made it like this. Which is one of the few things I can do in Painter. Someday I will be good at Painter if I don't eat my own head first.

Thank you. I must finish the comic so I can show off this character in a real picture. She's really way over the top. I'm happy that she is striking even in shadow though.

Very stylish indeed! The black and red gives it a classy kind of air about it. This reminds me of somthing you may see in Ted Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin series. Ha, I'm very partial to the long, thin claws, as well. ^^

Wonderful work! I won't put any con. crit., because you mentioned that this was not polished to its full extent. (Curse you, Painter Pro 8!!) Lurve it!

(P.s. - The Courtney Crumrin series is a graphic novel...I'm not quite sure how many people read it, but I highly reccomend it to anyone seeking a worthy series. )

Oh, thanks. I love claws. One day I'll finish this comic and be able to post a real picture of this character.

Yeah, I just can't get Painter to do what I think it can do. I doesn't help that I'm not that good a painter using real media. Too much time with simple line art and not enough time looking at how light defines form. I guess a lot more practice is in order.

I love Courtney Crumrin! Sorry, I'm a small comic artist so I've seen a lot of the indy/alt/small press comics. I love the feel of Black and White comics.

Thanks for the comment.

I shall have to take a peek at your comic! ^.^

Ah, what's better than kicking back and reading good, old-fasion black and white western comic books? ^^ It's a refreshing get-a-way from all the manga paparatzzi. (Not that I'm not obsessive compulsive over manga. oO;; But you need variety in your literary diet, ya know?)

CC is brilliant - Ted Naifeh has quite the imagination. ^-^ I'll have to check the local comic store for the next big volume of it next weekend. o.o

No problem! ;D

amegoddess In reply to StarredDragon [2004-05-19 07:10:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, comics. I love them though they make me poor and as a career choice I could do better flipping pizzas but it's so much fun. I like to read them and draw them.

Yay! I'll be poor forever!

Manga is good, Western is good... both can suck. But I try to read the ones that don't. Right now manga is different and thus cooler to a lot of people.

Hopefully we will make our own book store manga/comics and have a new triving comic culture that is both in book stores and in comic shops. I hope for such a thing. For that would be cool.

Ah! That would be rather interesting...! Comic book retailors tend to be brimming with odd little nick-knacks. ^^ You just can't have too many local comic book stores.

Manga is absolutely addictive..."Petshop of Horrors" was brilliant, I absolutely loved it. Unique drawing style galore in that one. Anyone reading this should definately pick that one up someday, too. ;D
