En un guión original que data de finales de los años 80's si iban a ser primos y aparte medios hermanos ya que Nala iba a ser hija de una de las hermanas menores Sarabi que se iba a llamar Naanda, y aparte su padre estaba implícito a ser Mufasa, pero todas esas ideas se borraron el la reescritura del guión de inicios de los 90's, por lo tanto ya no están relacionados, ya que Sarafina (la madre de Nala) no está relacionada con Sarabi, y en la serie de la Guardia del León finalmente aparece el padre de Nala en una pintura de cuando era cachorro y se sabe que no es Mufasa.

Pareciera, ya que en el Rey León 2, Nuka, Vitani y Kovu originalmente iban a ser hijos biológicos de Scar y Zira, y en el proceso primos de Simba, por lo que Kiara se iba a enamorar del primo de su padre, razón tal por la que eliminaron cualquier rasgo biológico entre Nuka, Vitani y Kovu con Scar, y Zira paso a ser solo una seguidora.
