Description Characters: OREC Cosmik Dream  | Kiara Assan

Story:
Kiara was originally apprehensive about Cosie. She'd spent so long bouncing between horses, never really feeling anywhere truly hers. It didn't matter if she liked them. If they were the perfect team. Because if they didn't work, she was moved onto another horse, and another. She ping ponged between them, learning all horses, not a particular type. She learned to deal with the calm, lazy horses first, then moved onto the horses that were more energetic. She experienced the hot headed horses, the ones that spooked easily, and the ones who acted as if they were the boss and she was nothing but a fly. She'd loved horses, enjoyed them and despised some.

What would she do if Cosie was not good for her. What if they were just bumbling buffoons together. She didn't have much experience with him besides ground work but she didn't think she would be problematic. But standing beside a horse and being on top were completely different.

She was now three, ready to be ridden. She'd done hours of saddle work with him. Strapped the saddle tight and loose, the stirrups up and loose, empty and with pool noodles hanging over. The mare hadn't been completely impressed seeing the bright blue foam arm waving out the side of her eyes, but had quickly realized they weren't a threat. She was smart. That much Kiara knew. Cosie respected her space, kept her ears on swivel to listen and enjoyed chin rubs.

Despite knowing so much about the mare, she still felt like she knew nothing. Who was she? Was she a dressage star? A high flying jumper or an uncontrollably speed demon going for Phar lap's title?

The first day Kiara got on him she felt like her stomach was gonna climb out her throat. But the young mare just watched her out the side of her eye warily. Kiara adjusted herself, hands in her mane in case she took off. She merely swiveled her ears as the leather creaked and waited for her to do something. Kiara swung her legs freely from the stirrups and felt the mare jolt slightly at the unexpected move. But she didn't bolt. Didn't buck. Just waited anxiously for more. Kiara swung her legs again, like a child on a swing. Besides some nervous side steps she didn't do much.

Since Cosie had passed the first test Kiara kept going. Leant down to rub her chest, then back to rub her rump. Wiggled in the seat. Lifted the stirrups. Played with her mane and tried to reach the round ears which were much too far for Kiara’s short arms. Half way through Kirara's antics Cosie decided the weird girl on his back wasn't a terrible predator and went to look for something actually interesting. Or wanted to show the other horses the weird girl on her back to the other horses.

Since the horse had given her the free steps though, Kiara used them. She gently pulled left, away from wherever the pale horse was heading in the small arena. She shook her head at first, confused by the pressure. Then, after the second tug realized she'd done this before. Kiara had been on the ground at the time, several feet behind the horse, but Cosie remembered. She turned, ears flicking towards the two legged creature. "Good girl!"

Cosie enjoyed praise, Kiara knew that too. Though, it was probably because it usually came with treats, and not because the mare enjoyed her voice. Nonetheless the mare took that as confirmation and happily let her steer her around the area for the most part. Cosie would get nervous when Kiara moved in a way the young horse didn’t expect.

Kiara kept the session short though, worried her mare would get too stressed and become nervous around future training sessions. She was learning, not being tortured, and Kiara wanted to make that obvious.

So she swung herself off a while later, and quickly realized Cosie hadn't seen her dismount off her back before when he lurched to the side. Thankfully the mare didn’t bolt or Kiara would have ended up eating dirt. Instead she calmly patted the mare's pale shoulder. Kiara pampered Cosie after that. Broke the treats out as she removed the tack. Brushed her down, and scratched all the good spots before turning her out to the pasture with all her friends.

She still wasn't completely confident, but she had hope. Hope that they would be a good team. Hope they would get along. Hope they would enjoy each other.
