I don't normally allow photo manipulation in my group but this was brilliant. The recognition it got on tumblr, the seamlessness, this is one of those rare photo manipulations that I actually will call art. My friend linked this to me and I was blown away.

Three things:
1. This is some amazing work! I really love that you changed her features so that she actually looks like a new character and not just "Moana in cosplay". There are a few places where the hair is a little smudged, but it+s nothing major. 
2. Toddler Katara is the cutting thing ever!! <3

I thought there was no way to replicate Katara in a 3 dimensional space. When people said "the Water Tribe is Inuit in ethnicity", I have always held, "no, they are cartoon in ethnicity". Not as a means to deprive the opportunity to tell the story of someone of another ethnicity, but rather because I associated Katara with pictures like "The Green Eyed Girl", a picture of an Afghan teenager called Sharbat Gula or Sharbat Bibi, because the eyes were so intense. Further, I associated the culture at least partially to reflect Hindu culture and I thought that the Water Tribe resembled the people of the Indian subcontinent. Which was also troubling, since I didn't think that would be right either.
So, instead, I resolved that, given that universe was portrayed in two dimensional art, we'd only be able to guess at what ethnicities they'd resemble closest.
While this artwork hasn't neccesarily given us a better chance at determining the ethnicity that the Water Tribe would be closest to, this depiction of Katara is so spot-on that I don't think I could ever think of Katara looking any other way in three dimensions. There's really no flaw in this depiction that I could point out. It's exactly what she would look like.
