Whoop. I done.I decided to enter my first contest. Joy.
The My Favourite Character Competition from fav.me/d72g2tk
I dunno. I just thought I'd join in since it'd be good practice for drawing characters other than my own. And plus I'd like to be part of a community in deviantART for once.
Anyway, this is Spencer from Number Days. I thought I'd draw him staring at his cell phone during the night, contemplating his number and the meaning, as to why it'd rise and lower to whatever actions. I replayed the game to get his character right and I figured he wouldn't scowl when he was alone, and contemplating and thinking...? idk.
I may have overdone it with the grass.
Anyway, I tried to move away from my usual style and technique and try a bit of drawing and painting combined. I really just played around with different tools until the outcome made my happy.
Anyway, good luck to all the other participants. I've seen some great things

lol sorry? Are you referring to the title of the piece? Haha yeah, it's not very cleverly worded, but it was supposed to refer to Spencer and how he was trying to figure out the assigned numbers.

The main reason I entered the contest was because I wanted to try and come out of my shell and start talking to people with similar interests, and I thought a small fan page would be a good start. Plus more practice in art wouldn't be a bad idea either

You're absolutely right! it's best to start with the small stuff, i made the mistake to begin with a big group, i was really disappointed from the results, so you're spot on with your reasoning:3 and yeah, practice makes perfect!Β
and haha don't sweat forgetting things, i accidentally forgot someone's eyebrows one time oops!Β

I almost tried to participate in a larger group, but got really intimidated by the growing number of art pieces being thrown into my messages and realized how small I would be in comparison. Especially considering I wasn't extremely proud or fond of my art back when I first tried.
It's strange because for the longest time I didn't bother with eyebrows (okay maybe as a kid, like from 3 to 11 but whatever) and when I first realized I should draw them I was terrified to think that itd make my drawings look uglier. But when I drew them on I realized they made hardly much of a difference (at the time since my people didn't really have... anatomy...) and then continued from there
And yeah, I've really been struggling to make friends on this site. I get so scared and so intimidated and my shyness just explodes. Another reason to join small but active groups :>

yeah, it can be really scary at first, but it gets easier the longer you're at it, or at least that's how I saw it. and no one is proud of their stuff at first! we just have to keep practicing and improving to get to a place we like Β it took me years to get a comfortable place, though i haven't full arrived there yet xDΒ
and haha how funny! eyebrows are something i never give second thought about unless i want to add extreme emotions (like anger or crying)Β
and don't sweat about the friends, you just find them as you come! I've made a lot of nice friends on here- and I'll be your friend! and agreed! small active groups are the way to go
