Description
This picture from my Crystal War universe shows Captain Miranda Arra (age 45, 9 months pregnant with a daughter) and Lady Ariel Varana (age 26, 9 months pregnant with a daughter and a son) discussing the current astropolitical situation while looking at a map of known space in Galactic Year 3486 (16 years after the end of the Crystal War, and 29 years before the collapse of the Galactic Empire).

Since the map is two-dimensional it somewhat distorts the true distance between particular planets in space, but it does give a general idea of where things are. The major non-human rivals of the human-dominated Galactic Empire are the Hexagons (strange crystalline entities with mysterious powers and motivations) and the Zagesser (highly aggressive and territorial creatures somewhat resembling bipedal lizards, also noted for their three genders (male, female and neuter)); the Principality of Bangrefe and the Gingibine Federation, meanwhile, are primarily-human governments which chose to refrain from assimilation into the Galactic Empire and thus maintain cordial if occasionally strained relations with their larger neighbor.

(Lady Ariel, by the way, is the same little girl depicted in my picture Very pregnant Professor Varana, only more grown-up here. Ariel grew up on Capital with her mother (Science Minister Jedda Varana) and conceived her twins by Prince Justin Engelhoff (age 19) while tutoring Justin's younger brother and sister in mathematics and history. The child of Captain Arra, meanwhile, was fathered by her old friend Admiral Nathan Longridge (age 55).)
