Description Design by Joan Elliott
Fabric; 14 count white Aida
Finished size; approx 21cm x 26cm
Used Anchor metallic thread, copper colour and gold and orange beads

He was fun to stitch, although the metallic thread was sometimes a true horror to stitch with, it tended to get knotted up real easy! So not a pleasure to work with if you're used to kreinik thread (in my humble opinion of course).

Amazingly I stitched this gorgeous design relatively fast (maybe because he was so much fun to do). And I do like how many different symbolic things are actually in there that are all related to the Sun. A definite joy to stitch and his companion, Mother Moon will follow at some point surely!

Oh I love this. I have this chart too, and it's definitely on my to-do-list, along with the Mother Moon chart too. I think they'd make a wonderful pairing, framed next to each other on the wall <3

I have to ask, what is the difference between the Anchor metallic threads and the Kreinik threads? Which would you recommend for a beginner?

He was fun to do! And I do have Mother Moon halfway finished as well. There are so many symbols from all kinds of cultures hidden in there its worth more than a glance over for sure.

As for the threads - I personally would recommend the Kreinik threads even if its more expensive to buy.

They are sparklier!!

On a more serious note though!

Kreinik threads are not as rigid as the Anchor threads and just stitch up more pleasantly that way. They tend to fray less than the Anchor threads from what I have experienced with this piece ( I've worked with Kreinik more often though). Also Kreinik threads are wrapped by the single thread as opposed to Anchor where you will need to pick out one strand at al time like a normal strand of floss (but that's really just nitpicking ).

But I guess you can try both Anchor and Kreinik out on a test piece of fabric if you're really unsure. That way you will know for sure which of the two works best for you

I like how you picked out the "leaves" in green colors. On the chart I have they look brown and gold, but this is a nice touch. Kudos!

I have this one and Mother Moon and will stitch them one of these days, but how wonderful to see yours and read about how fun they were to stitch!

I still have Missy Moon to stitch up and she will definitely be on my 2015 to do list. You'll enjoy them no doubt about it.

They have quite a few not so obvious symbols from several cultures - it's fun discovering them as you stitch!

really fantastic!!   so using kreinik is easier? I know metallic threads are kind of pain in the...neck *ahem* but I always thought it's simply part of it

Haha yes it makes a considerable difference!

The Anchor mettallic thread I used was very stiff compared to Kreinik and tended to get tangled up a lot more as well.
Also, it came as a normal piece of floss, you had to remove each of the the strands yourself from the standard 6 strands. Didn't always go as smooth as normal floss would lol.

Other than that, the colour is really gorgeous! No comments there, but my preference wouldn't go out to it!
