I know what you mean.Sometimes not so lovely things look breathtaking through a photo,an example the run down landmarks of my home town.
Other times photos can never express the ultimate beauty of an object,an example the top of the Chrysler building in NYC.

Yes I was amazed by what I saw from the Empire's observation deck.The Chrysler's Steel accents are breathtaking.
The city of Manhatten has to be experienced in person.

I was there for only one night.
I have in-laws in Brooklyn I had never met before.
This was back in 2003.
