I really like this. Its expressive and I wonder- why butterflies. Why does the Boogeyman dream of butterflies? I'm reading the books right now so maybe I'm going to find out β₯ great picture

"To see a butterfly in your dream signifies longevity, creativity, romance, joy and spirituality. You may be experiencing a new way of thinking. Or you are undergoing some sort of transformation. Alternatively, a butterfly refers to your need to settle down. You are lacking focus in your life. You tend to be flighty and jump from one thing to another."
"The butterfly is symbolic of an intense transformation for the better and as such, it is associated with the soul and resurrection. It is sometimes thought to be an omen of death in the family. When associated with death, the dream butterfly appears to prepare the dreamer for the loss of loved one."
-Dream Meanings for Butterflies
Well, there are more meanings; I think there was a meaning behind the whole "Pitch dreams about butterflies" bit, and it made me feel bad for Pitch. :c But this is lovely, I really love the sand effect. I'm still trying to master that effect for my ROTG drawings. You even colored it beautifully well!

*nods* Sure, he can go crazy, but doesn't everyone sometimes?! Besides, he had a sad past....
And fear isn't always bad, though it can be taken to far. But fear DOES protect, whether me and Pitch are oppisites or not.

((I've not read the books yet,but reading up about the character and watching the movie, as dark as he is, he doesn't seem interested in really HURTING children, let along killing them. He just does what he does. He seems more violent towards other beings like himself, via that guardians and man in the moon, etc.
Even in the movie, he seemed more interested in taunting the kids than actually attacking them. I actually noticed, when he's talking about the Dark Ages, when he notices the guardians, he sees come kids and bends down for them. To me, he didn't look like he was going to be necessarily scary, but just...acknowledged. I don't even think he was "on the clock" 24/7. So yeah, he could be scary, but the Boogeyman is also a tool to make children behave and be obedient to their parents. Good children normally had nothing to worry about with him, aside from a bad dream once in a while. You want scary...you should read up some of the German tales of the Sandman. He used to pluck out the eyes of naughty children and feed them to his children on the moon LOL. Boogeyman tales are pretty tame by comparison to the Sandman fairy tales...and more practical.))

It's true. My parents are always trying to scare me into things, and so our my brothers. Pitch is a mature guy, I guess just wanting to be noticed and seen by children. He doesn't REALLY want to hurt anyone, but just be known and teach the kids 'lessons' not by hurting them, but by scaring them into reality about what could happen if they did so and so. And Everyone needs a break SOMETIME, so I am absolutely sure Pitch Black takes a break a few times a year. Who knows?
I really think that inside, he's just a polite man with a reputation of the Boogeyman to keep.

((He does seem very polite in general. He gets loud when he's angry or excited but so quiet when he speaks any other time. I think in the end of the movie, his "strike" against the children themselves was more desperation.. I mean, if he COULD have grabbed one of the children, what would he have done? I think after grabbing one of them up...he had nothing. Just the self-validation that he still had a presence over them. As I said, on his own, the first time around, he didn't attack or run at those children in the dark ages. He just bent down to face them. Heck even when he's talking to Jamie, he's very level.
He didn't seem too interested in doing physical harm to him...just spooking him. I think Pitch is more a Boogeyman after my own heart in the sense that he goes for where the damage is less visible...psychologically. Think of a horror movie...a slasher flick is scary but not after it's over. Cuz your villain dies and it's very forward. A psychological horror flick, no matter what happens to your villain, you are left feeling very uncomfortable. The physical threat is no longer there, but the attack on your sensibilities has left a mark.
...Also...does this strike you as hilariously strange that...a Boogeyman and a Sandman are having this conversation? LOL ))

(( If I'm correct, Pitch WAS a general in past life, right? He was fine, protecting people who now fear him. In a way, he still protects people like that scaring people so they don't do stupid things. Pitch does seem the kind of guy who would always be quiet, but when he gets loud, who knows how much he'll burst.
If Pitch did grab any children, the worst I'd say he would do is 'hold them captive' long enough to scare them, then let them go with a 'threat.'
No physical harm is right, and scaring is the Boogeyman's job for moons sake!
(It DOES seem odd if Pitch and Sandy were REALLY having this convo! xP )))

((I can so see them at a cafe sipping coffee and discussing this LOL
Yes, I believe he served in the empire the Man in the Moon was to lead. He was a general and responsible for helping to capture the fearlings. He left his daughter to guard the prison they were in. But they tricked him into thinking she was in there with them, so he opened the door to save her. However, once they consumed him, he forgot who he was. I've not read the books yet so the little details, I dunno. But that's the general synopsis of his back story [and I do know a LITTLE more but don't want to spoil it for others].
Agreed that he'd likely just hold a child hostage to scare them and then let them go. It would simply be a word of mouth transference of information to make others believe. I do notice that he loses his sh*t when he panics and just says and does goofy things. I think the most active I saw him in the movie, without ANY provocation of any sort was his little dance on the globe at the North Pole near the end, when he's snubbing out lights.
Ah, this is a fun convo. Considering I was planning on writing a novel about the boogeyman [obviously of my original design, not a fanfic], this discussion does help me think of the finer points to consider when creating the characters I'll need for the story.))

((Yes and the Sandman would most likely need a high chair or to sit on the table ROFL
I haven't read the books yet and I must say I don't know much. You know way more then I do, that's for sure.
I wou;ld say the Boogeyman, like everyone, has those days were you just have to let your crazy-ness out. But I'm also sure he would do it deep in his lair with only his nightmares around.... Or maybe he'd have his nightmares in a different part of his lair.
WRITE THAT NOVEL, MAN! I would read it :3

((Still working on the notes for the novel. It's called "Sandman on Tiptoes" though. Since I found all this cool info in the lore, I'm trying to figure out a way for it to be a good story, but something that would also please my publisher. I'm thinking of going for a psychological thriller...since I can't judge horror as a writer as I'm too desensitized to figure out what it scary to the average person. So maybe my thriller will be more of a horror to some others. I kinda want to go for a psychological mind-screw on top of a "Something Wicked This Way Comes" sort of creepy chill. I'm trying to plan out my children characters but currently I'm trying to plan out which adult characters fit where.))
