Description "Boarcroc"

Kaprosuchus saharicus, generic hypsilophodontid. My second airbrush painting and my first airbrushed paleoart piece this being the first

Here is the mighty boarcroc! 15-20 feet in length with an armored nose and horned eyes and ears. Along with its tusk-like teeth, we can see why the name kaprosuchus means "boar crocodile" from the Greek kapros ("boar") and souchos ("crocodile"). My rendition of the animal has overgrown horns and the armor along its nose is very robust compared to other reconstructions I've seen as mine is supposed to be like an elderly individual, a bull who has reached a pretty substantial size for its kind.

The main subjects and sky were colored primarily with airbrush acrylics while to achieve the rough look of the dried riverbed I used ordinary acrylics then airbrushed lightly. I could not get the rough texture with the airbrush so paintbrushes were used.

Done with airbrush acrylics and regular acrylics.

Here are some of my other croc themed pieces

Awesome! Kaprosuchus is by far one of my favorite prehistoric crocodiles (along with sarchosuchus).

Looks real nice, like it how you kept the pallet very simple. For some reason i think the best part is the throat and spikey neck part. Looks almost like digital art, i bet if you practised that airbrush and get it more smooth it will even fool people.

and the stripes on the dinner dino are a nice touch

Thx

I'm gonna hav to practice more on my clouds to get them to look good, my water too

but the thing smooth is not always what u want, especially with da dry riverbed here. its really tricky to get that rough look with da airbrush, at least for me

the little guy is my rendition of a dino-antelope, lol

yeah the ground is nice rough, you should do some cracked ground like this: [link] for some sort of dinosaur.

Water would be fun with the airbrush i bet, the white highlights and reflextions would have me entertained for ages I so need to get myself one but id have to order it interstate cos they dont sell nice ones where i live

Damn, u're right, I should hav done that for da riverbed!

Its kinda funny that i don't think anyone's noticed that there is a small body of water in da pic lol

I'm sure u'd be too engrossed with the airbrushing of water that your parents would hav to pry u away from it with a crowbar so u will eat something

I got my airbrush online from TCPglobal's ebay site [link] n the accessories on their main site [link] its like an online airbrush/spray-gun depot. i hav trouble finding accessories n maintenance materials locally so i buy them online.

The patch on the left? i thought that was more sand dunes...my bad but now that i know its water i can see that now

Its like that when i get really into drawing, which hasnt been lately but i can stay up all day and night if not disturbed and usually finish the drawing in one hit no stops.

Ill check that site but i usually prefer to buy locally (as in within aus) but if i see something i like ill nab it

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-01 09:48:05 +0000 UTC]

yeah, that little puddle in the left

yeah i know what its like to be in da zone when your drawing. Cuz of it i've been going to be at 7 in the morning and I've been suffering from chronic back pain for years. i don't use a table to draw/paint, just my lap so I'm hunched over for most of the time.

TCPglobal is awesome but they charge a bit too much for shipping outside of the US so I ship my stuff to my dad's place. But their ebay site is a bit more reasonable.

Don't forget its best that u get an aircompressor for the air source before u get da airbrush. it may be a bit pricey but in da long run it will save u a lot of cash rather than buying can after can of compressed air. This is da one I got [link] , cheap ($70 aus), small and portable. Da other models can be huge and cost up to $200 aus.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to amorousdino [2011-02-01 10:51:39 +0000 UTC]

i dont draw on a table either, i keep one leg bent and lean the drawing against it ir lean it against the corner of the table so its got that angle(i usually draw from a pad so its got support with all the pages) i find drawing on a table feels weird. I get horrid neck and back pains from drawing and bad RSI too because of working with pencils so much

Yeah its really the air compressor i want to get first, there is a huge hardware store that has a decent vairety of them but i just dont know if they will connect to any old airbrush i buy so i havent bothered yet. The ones ive seen have been from cheap $60-80 ones (which probably do the job as good as an exspencive one) and the real fancy large ones going for up to $300 or so. but i got heaps of arty contacts and im sure i can get help with that department

U should do some back exercises, something to stretch out your spine and neck. But then u do seem to proud of that fact the strife of an artist

Well, I can't wait for ya to get one so u can start with those airbrushed paintings (hopefully something scaled and that rhymes with choco-dial )

haha well it sometimes give me an excuse to avoid physical labour such as washing the car i use hand grippers to stretch my hand muscles (like squeezing a tennis ball repeditally) and i do various stretches like twisting the upper body to unknot those bitchy pains

I still havent gotten to a crocy, ive got a half done drawing saying "finish me now!" staring up at me every day but i just isnt in an art mood which is why i havent put anything up

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-02 06:22:02 +0000 UTC]

well, i hope that car is in better shape than i think it is in

for getting rid of those back pains, I like to sit on da floor, curl my back than uncurl myself as far as I can stretch across da floor. another thing i like to do is stretch my back on the curve of the side of the family car's trunk. It feels so good when u feel n hear your spinal column pop back into place

as for my unfinished work, its mainly my sculptures that i make out of super sculpey. lots unfinished busts of people and dinos lying around my desk. Still need to work on my sculpting skills

Well its actually in pretty good shape (and i got my p plates today finally in it as well), mum got me to wash it 2 days ago anyways and i offered to wax it even, never again i swear will i wax a car...TAKES TOO LONG!!

yeah i like that feeling when a joint clicks and no matter how much they say its bad for you to crack joints i dont care I dont purposly crack knuckles tho, try not stuff my hands up early

I wish i could sculpt, i usually can do one side of a head awesome and then the other half looks wrong. and smoothering fingerprints out pfft dont get my started.

Now that's something cool, u got u're probationary license! So u gonna take that newly waxed car for a spin? and it kinda serves u right for volunteering for da waxing but at least u can drive what u waxed

Well, sculpting symmetrically is pretty hard, even for da pros. I collect a lot of accurate wildlife figurines when I can, these days from da US (museums n zoos) like these guys [link] , [link] , [link] . I've never seen an african elephant in real life, not once in my life(lots of asian elephants though) so this is the closest i'm gonna get in real life. I've notice my a.elephant figure's face is asymmetrical, same with da nile croc figure but they still look great on my desk. I really wanna be as good as the sculptors u sculpted them

well, in your brothers' defense, I heard Ausie women can be pretty scary , even da pint size ones, especially when they got a bit of road-rage coursing through their veins

he is good, i think you showed me some of those sculptures before and was getting one done or something. Tis always a shame with the professionals because they usually dont have time for peoples personal commisions.

Aussie women are scary and get scarier when they are older and have little mongrel kiddies; they are the scariest aussie women you'd ever meet because they will snap at you if you dont watch it. they are scary because Aussie men are lazy shits and the women have to kick their arses into shape The whole male dominance thing doesnt work here

Nah, that was Jonathan Rader (he did that supercroc statue i showed ya), he's da one doing that commission of mine. Krentz I think is way too busy these days to do commissions. He's working on a new dino doco done in style of Walking with Dinosaurs for the Discovery channel and Pixar. Heard a lot of good things about it but then again it is a Discovery production, I wasn't impressed by their previous efforts at dino documentaries

Well, u've just confirmed my suspicions on the ladies from da land down unda might just hav to watch my back (and what I say, more importantly) if I ever visit there

Me, I've got the whole Walking with... series (dinosaurs, beasts, monsters) on dvd. u should watch the 2nd one, W.w.Beasts. Its about the animals that came after the dinos, like the primitive-walking whales (that looked like fuzzy crocs), sabertooth cats and killer pigs the size of horses [link] . W.w.Monsters is a prequel about life before da dinos.

Did u see da follow up episodes of W.W.D the ones that included wildlife presenter Nigel Marven who interacted with da dinos like it was an episode of da Crocodile Hunter? It was called Chased by Dinosaurs in the US There was also a 3 part sequel called Sea Monsters: A W.w.D Trilogy where Marven explored the 7 deadliest seas of all time. Lots of giant prehistoric sea predators including da Megalodon shark, the serpentine whale Basilosaurus, and a whole lot of monstrous sea reptiles!

Sorry, I kinda trailed off I am a big fan of da series

I think I will hav to visit Aus in the near future. I've got a lot of relatives there (on each end of the continent i think)Might hav to visit them one day.

SOunds good to have relatives on all corners of the earth, mine are all in UK, Canada, France, Ireland and of course Australia. Dont know any more spread out further than that.

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-05 07:31:55 +0000 UTC]

I think that was Prehistoric Park, a related show. similar concept, same guy and production team but pretty different. The Chased by Dinos one never explained how he went back in time, just how it might be like if they had a camera crew n present in and amongst da dinos. da differences r subtle. 1 main one is da animal designs. da Walking with... shows rarely changed the animal designs n behaviors n da animals in P.Park r designed quite differently.

Mine too, but none in Canada or France as I recall but I got a lot in da UK n New Zealand. Ireland huh? is that where u got ur red hair from My grandpa was part Irish. he always wanted to see Ireland. A bit of a meanie, he was my mum n her brother inherited his Irish temper too, so i try my best not to cross her lol.

How the heck is da weather down in Oz? I heard some really freaky weather is going on in da NorthEast of da continent!

Well my grandpa thinks the red hair is from scottland on his side of the family (no relies in scottland tho) but red hair runs in both sides of my family so we have no idea to be honest, red hair only coming through with my household; all my cousins are either blonde or brown.

Yeah northeast australia has a nice big cyclone and before that was a flood so they arnt handling too well, however even tho they are close to where i am it is hot and sunny

I heard for a redhead to be born a redhead, both parents need to carry the red hair gene, even if they themselves aren't redheads. U hav the rarest hair color in world, ma'am stand up n parade it with pride

Well good to know u don't hav to worry about that crazy cyclone dispensing weather. though i am not a big fan of the heat, its better than having your house blown in on your head Right now, as I write this, there's a huge thunderstorm keepin me n m'dog indoors too much lightening to go outside

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to amorousdino [2011-02-05 10:13:55 +0000 UTC]

Not neccisarily both parents have to carry it, just makes it more likely to get a red head kiddy, i know a greek family who has two natural red haired kids, now how often do you see greek red heads?

I must be pretty rare, im left handed (something like 10% of people are lefties), green eyes (which is the most rarest natural colour apart from purple and albino), red hair (not strawberry blonde, but awesome red) and i dont listen to rap and hiphop (most teenagers do i swear). And yes i do parade about with my red hair, im very proud of it hence why i have it at a rediculous length for this hot humid weather i live in

Haha the thunderstorms ive been having seem to have stopped for now but i shouldnt be clear of rain until about may. are your dogs no good with thunder and lightning too? mine tries everything to get into the house when there is a bad storm.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-05 11:33:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, i read the parent/redhair gene thing in an old issue of NatGeo it said that some think the gene might go extinct in da next 50 years

And you're a LEFTY? now a left-handed, green-eyed redhead is rare! n u paint! n you;re proficient with firearms (assumptions lol)!! now if u can sing, dance and handle dangerous animals with your bare hands, we'd all hav aneurysms from your awesomeness!

I'm not into rap either but don't go bad mouthing them, that shit is hard I had to rap in a song parody with a standup comedy group recently and rapping the lyrics was just plain hard(well I only had 30 minutes to prepare too, ).

My dog is strange when it comes to lightening. my first dog, n other dogs i know, r afraid of lightening/thunder. But my current dog acts aggressively towards it. He hears thunder n races outside to bark at da thunder like it was another dog

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to amorousdino [2011-02-05 14:12:49 +0000 UTC]

yeah i dont beleive the gene will die out in 50 years, because once you have the gene, its there red heads will just be very veeeeery rarely born methinks.

Yes i love my guns, going to apply for my firearm liesense in june (in australia you have to be 18 to get a liesense and i think to own a gun as well).

Im guessing it would be hard to sing rap because of how fast they talk, but i still dont like it anyway :s

The father of my current dog used to be fine with thunder and rain and absolutely loved fireworks, often chasing the little bumble bee ones and running around the fountain ones. but his daughter is a total pussy when it comes to all three of those things. maybe your dog speaks thunder?

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-05 15:04:00 +0000 UTC]

So, r u a shotgun kinda gal or a rifle sort? I guess u got a pair of tough shoulders to handle da kick of those guns. Well its good to know that there's some gun control in Aus but how to u qualify for a license? Go out to a range n show a tester that u got the stuff to shoot some vermin or two timing boyfriends.

Funny thing about my dog speakin thunder. My dog's name is Thor n he hates fireworks just as much as thunder. Its been bonkers here cuz it Chinese New Year n my neighbors r shooting off fireworks like its no big deal. N u can guess what happens when Thor hears the fireworks

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to amorousdino [2011-02-05 18:02:44 +0000 UTC]

i like rifles better, feel more lighter and less recoil, though i love the sound of the big bang of shotties. We have a theory test where we have to answer question like if we have to put the weopon down in an emergency what prcedure do we follow etc. then i think we do a target test maybe.

ah chinese new year, im guessing there is alot of cultural stuff going on where u are, the most i might get here is a singluar lion dance display. Not a real big thing here

i bet he barks at alot of loud noises, at least you know you have a good guard doggie to alarm you

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

amorousdino In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2011-02-05 18:28:39 +0000 UTC]

Theory test, huh? Never imagined that for firearms licenses I just imagined a test on proficiency when using it, proper maintenance and how to store it. And maybe a test on what not to do with a rifle like opening cans or cracking open walnuts.

I haven't seen a lion dance in years! last time i saw one was probably when i was 17 or 18 at school/college. But CNY is a bit of a pain for me cuz i live near a popular Chinese temple and during CNY people flock to the temple and park in my neighborhood, cloggin up the road for hours and there's only 1 exit/entrance for my neighborhood

as for Thor, he barks at the mention of my name by someone else and when i was younger, at my parents if they had a bone to pick with me lol! so much so, they usually told me to put him outside before they scolded me.
