Description "Of Bistahi"

Bistahieversor sealeyi. A painting of the New Mexican tyrannosaurid, Bistahieversor. I did the pencil work in the concourse of San Francisco International Airport last Thursday while waiting for my flight to LAX to attend SVP 2013, my first SVP meeting ever. I just got around to painting it earlier this morning.

Completed on the 9th of November 2013.

Done using acrylics and water-soluble color pencils.

The thing I love most about this is that you have lipped portrait . I think it's the first or maybe the second time I see a lipped tyrannosaurid and I appreciate it, because it helps to make the dinosaurs (especially theropods) more natural and less monstrous. The color and the way in which you have ordered is perfect and appropriate. I usually do not appreciate the "thorny" portraits of dinosaurs but in this case I have to say that blend well with the rest of the integument. Anatomically, however, there are two small errors that affect both the region of the symphysis. First of all, the ear that is wrongly located in the infra-temporal fenestra (or at least this is the impression that the painting gives me). Second, the line that represents the opening of the jaws seems to me too extensive, which should really stop roughly at eye level. However, it is a beautiful painting that shows a great talent in the fusion of several techniques such as acrylics and pencils. Although the ridges are a bit exaggerated (for me it is not a defect but for someone else it could be) the reconstruction seems to me faithfully based on the skull so for me it's overall a very good one.

I would think that the rides are keratinous extensions.

Well, I did depict the ear behind the quadratojugal, not in the lateral temporal fenestra.

As I'm a Navajo person, let it say this Bistahi is the Navajo word for "Place of the able formation" or just say "Badlands" and the another were eversor from Latin for "Destroyor." True mean word.^^
