Yeah, that's pretty bad luck.Β I came across a shiny Wurmple at the beginning of the game all the way back in the Generation 3 days, and I had no Poke Balls to catch it because it popped up right at the beginning.

I kicked myself because I hadΒ Masterballs, but for some stupid reason thought it best to weaken it and capture it in an Ultraball. I hadn't played the game in a while and forgot Gravelers use that move.

i always held the impression that moves like explosion and self destruct weren't literal self destruction, but rather they were actually a very large burst of energy that yields a high payload, but renders the pokemon exhausted. It kinda explains how pokemon can use those moves and still live ... i don't know great comic anyway.

huh, always got the impression that hp represented how many hits a pokemon could take before going down (as in boxing, where getting knocked out isn't pleasant, and certainly isn't healthy, but its not guaranteed to be fatal) and moves with recoil (including explosion, self-destruct, and struggle) expended that ability, hence why pokemon in the show seemed to glow when using those moves (they were releasing that energy as an attack) and why pokemon in-game could still be revived at pokecenters. of course, keeping things kid-friendly is the irl explanation for why pokemon only faint, but still.

and that's a move i always make my pokemon forget, no kind of victories are good enough to justify kamikaze techs... specially because on the new versions every friggin rock pokemon knows self-destruct, you know how hard is to make a nuzlocke when whatever you don't kill in one hit explodes in your face?

Now that I think about it, there's probably no real way to kill a Pokemon except by old age... and then it just comes back as a Ghost...
