A huge splash erupted from the pool and everyone ducked for cover to avoid getting soaked. The culprit was a rowdy Yagara jumping around excitedly, trying to catch a newspaper from the News Coo soaring above him.
Those few closest to the water nearly shrieked, not planning to get wet and they fled. A woman with dark pink hair quickly hopped back, stumbling over her wooden leg as she landed but managed to avoid getting wet. The fishman sitting calmly by the pool merely put a hand over his cup and allowed the water to drench him. Another woman stood across from him with her hands on her hips, grinning and unmoving as the large waves pummeled into her.
The others were safe from the storm the Yagara was causing. His gleeful neighing filled the air as he rode the waves he created in his yellow donut toy and pulled himself to the edge of the pool, slapping the wet pavement to get everyone’s attention. The blond man laughed with the two women he sat with at the table, and they noticed the creature had a bundle of paper in his mouth.
“Whatcha got there, buddy?” The fishman pat the beast’s neck, trying to get him to drop it.
Everyone turned to look at the animal, who loosened his grip on the newspaper and it unraveled, causing a pile of papers to fall and scatter on the wet ground.
When the pages hit the floor, water clung to the parchment and made them still. They fell face-up and when everyone realized what they were, reactions were varied but apparent.
“Would you look at that!” The fish-man exclaimed, using his foot to spread out the pages more evenly.
When arranged to his liking, 3 of the wanted posters stood out to them in particular.
“Doctor Tean, oh you got a title!” The brunette added. Her hair and jacket were drenched with water.
“I have a last name…” the blond said, embarrassed.
“I think they raised our bounties.” The red-head at the table commented.
“Why though?” A cat man with blue hair peered from behind the bush; he had hidden away to avoid the splashes.
“The real question is why don’t you have a head in your picture, Knis?” The teal-skinned woman sitting with her wondered.
Knis only grinned and shrugged in response.
“Cyril,” the woman standing by the pool started.
The pink haired woman she spoke to hid her face, expecting what was coming.
“Is that supposed to be you?” She snorted.
“Yes yes! I’m getting it changed as I’ve told you, Riley!” Cyril barked, blushing furiously.
“You said it was bad but wow,” Riley grinned ear to ear. “You got your picture taken mid-chew! You look like a hamster!”
Cyril grumbled to herself, looking angrily at the ground.
“Look who’s talking,” Soto the fish-man started. “As the captain of our crew, you don’t even have a bounty!”
Riley’s shoulders immediately dropped and a dark cloud formed around her, giving her features a dark somber shadow. “I know…”
Everyone shared a hearty laugh at their captain’s expense, but all in good fun. They joined her crew because they respected her.
Another page caught Cyril’s eye. It wasn’t shaped like the others, tattered and small but had a very vibrant red chain design on the front. “What’s that?” she asked, kneeling and pushing it aside so everyone could see it more clearly.
“It says, “CHALLENGE: To everyone who just entered the Grand Line! The first pirate crew that manages to reach me here at the Sabaody Archipelago will gain my protection and a free pass to the New World. You will have to weather the storms and fight your way forward until fate decides which crew is the most worthy to be our allies.”” Soto read aloud.
“Well, Captain?” Stitchface, the teal-haired woman asked.
Everyone turned their gaze to the brunette who grinned and put her sunglasses on. She tried her best to look cool even with the water cascading down the dark lenses. “Well we got nothing better to do! This will be our first voyage aboard our ship, The Lucky Kitten!” She exclaimed, grabbing a drink off the table and holding it in the air.
Those with drinks raised them and the others held their fists in the air in agreement, shouting with great excitement.
