Thanx!
Oh, I love questions about my Motherland. it's really glad to see, that someone is interested.
Секретный Санта - is'nt russian tradition. It's just kind of.. flashmob, I think. One russian Hetalia-community arranged it.
Also, essence is... People are writing an application in a "secret box". In the application they write what they want (art or fanfic). When all bids are collected, each participant is given someone else's application. Participant must execute it before deadline. At the appointed time all work requests are posted for free access. So, everyone gets a gift ^ ^
Yes, New Year is important festival in Russia. Symbol is Ded Moroz (russian equialent of Santa). If children are good, they get good gifts, you know and adult usally exchange gifts, you're right.
We have'nt stable tradition. Everyone does what he wants, it's fest for example, this year my good friend, dressed as Ded Moroz and gave gifts to friends) Well... How do you celebrate the New Year in Poland?

I study Russian filology so my teacher (from Kazań) tells us some things about Russian culture. I was so shocked with idea of giving presents on New Year or having New Year's (Christmas) tree. Then she told it was about revolution, bolsheviks and that stuff...
So in Poland we are more into Christmas, on Christams Eve (24th December) whole family gather together, we eat, sing carols (I heard you have New Year's songs, I just love Дима Билан- Новый год, all students in my group, including me, find a fragment with president so funny ;D) break off a opłatek (ukr. Оплаток, Russian word for it is similar) while wishing all the best to each other. And later presents of course and Pasterka at midnight (you can go to church on Pasterka (mass) or at morning).
What about solely New Year - it's not a family holiday. It's a occasion to go party. Adults go on some kind of ball, young people go to clubs or to someone house to dance, sing and most important - drink (beer, wódka). In TV they transmit concerts taking place the biggest cities all night where Polish bands and singers do they job. People are having fun being there or watching at home. I don't know if you watch president's proclamation in your country, but in Poland we don't listen to it. There are only concerts and movies in TV. All thing lasts two days, on 2nd January workers go to work, students to school.

Awww, I did'nt know that... Thanx for information
Yes, I'm kind of history lover too. I think, all hetalia-lovers are :-D
And you're right!
Actually, Russians are'nt two-faced. We love alcohol, but not so much that it becomes our main stereotype. All the Russian are public, sometimes even impudent, sociable people. But if we mean Russia as a country, not as a collective image of the people, then I approve Ivan. I think Russia has always been a bit strange country. It's not Europe, not Asia. Something mixed, special.
And, by the way, Braginsky - is'nt russian surname.

Yes also Slavic languages are hard to learn - for example polish is the hardest language to learn and pronounce for foreigners as chinese.
No it would be said too much. Even a little is too little^^ I still only can introduce myself say easy sentences like "Kto eta? Eta sabaka." I think that you understand without cyrylic^^ and know alphabet and days of week ect. ^^
