Didn't comment??? I'm crazy. This is such a great group of drawings.

Favorites are top left (lady with baby), girl with sword, guy with bow. But they are all fantastic!! So much character and life in each one.

heyyyyy question!! how do you make clean linework??? like if i have a scribble, how do i clean it up to make it look like yours?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AmyClark In reply to duxfox [2009-09-28 10:05:38 +0000 UTC]

I start drawing lightly with blue pencil, and draw my final lines over that. Most of the "extra lines" in the blue sketch are erased as I go. But I usually don't use too many extra/scribbly lines. I use basic shapes with a few extra lines in cross shapes like + on the face and chest for guidelines.

This is a good example of what my sketches look like at any given stage: [link]

If there are any glaringly messy lines that I couldn't erase (maybe tiny ones in the the hair) then I take a few minutes and erase some in photoshop once it's scanned in. I usually leave a bit of blue behind because I like how it looks.

Does that help?

yes it does, thanks for all the info, but im wondering, do you go over the blue pencil lines, with cleaner lines, in photoshop or by using a pen (or something of the sort)?
in other words do you go over the raw sketch digitally or traditionally?
because your line art is very smooth and clean. when i try to go over something i scanned, its a bit hard because i cant get the tablet to do exactly what i want it to. like it wont go exactly over a certain line etc...
either way though, making clean line arts would probably be a bit more difficult for me cuz im a very messy sketcher
thanks again for the info you shared with me

I do all lineart traditionally. I use blue col-erase pencil for the sketch and 2B graphite pencils for the final lineart. 2B and 3B make for the smoothest, cleanest lineart in my opinion - just soft enough to be fluid and dark, but not so soft that it becomes a smudgy mess.

I'm just now becoming more adept with my own wacom tablet, but I still haven't reached the point where I can digitally ink an entire piece. ^_^

omg you seriously get such clean linearts with just pencils??? O.O thats hot, im gonna try it sometime *goes over and draws* but your linearts look like they were done digitally, maybe you just have skillz that i dont lol, whatever you're doing, keep doing it cuz its working

Hehe, thanks. But these sketches were done traditionally.

Here's an example of what it looks like when I go over things digitally to really clean it up for hi-res lineart commissions: [link]

ohhh ok, your traditional cleanups are pretty close to the digital though, the quality, but the digital is slightly better.
do you do the digital on illustrator or photoshop?

AmyClark In reply to duxfox [2009-10-05 20:45:48 +0000 UTC]

Ummm, both? Both!! Mostly photoshop, though.

duxfox In reply to AmyClark [2009-10-06 01:09:16 +0000 UTC]

ahh i see, well i think im gonna try to get clean traditional linearts before i attempt digital, right now my line arts are looking crappy on the clean side >.>
example would be the manga im working on, its posted on my page (chapter 3 is on the latest 4)
either way, you're awesome
