“AMY!”

The silence still lingered. He knew she wasn’t going to come up on her own. If needed to save her… But at the same time he was faced with another big problem…

He couldn’t swim well. On top of that, the water was freezing cold, and if he stayed in too long, he would experience hypothermia. But if he didn’t do anything, Amy would surely experience this soon. And he couldn’t lose someone dear to him… Not again.

His mind was made up. He took a deep breath and dived into the icy cold water. As soon as his body touched the water, he felt an incredible chill through his body. He felt like spears made ice were piercing through his chest. He tried to ignore the feeling, and scope around to see if Amy was still in sight. He didn’t know what had grabbed her, or more importantly how dangerous it was. But he had no time to lose. He dove deeper down and began his search.

Amy’s body was almost completely numb. She slowly looked beneath her to see what had grabbed her in the first place. Shadow had been right. It was another of those robots. Except this one could swim. She was too weak to try and summon her hammer, and what good what it do? It wouldn’t work that well underwater anyway. She was nearly out of air, and her body had frozen up. She could feel her life force slowly slipping away.

Is this really it? She thought to herself. Am I really going to die like this? It can’t be over… It just can’t be… Shadow… Please save me.

She saw a black figure suddenly appear in the water. She was starting to lose consciousness so she couldn’t identify the figure. But she somehow knew it had to be Shadow. It didn’t look like he could see her. She tried to make a faint splash in the water, but he didn’t see or hear it. She could see Shadow’s figure in the water getting smaller and smaller as the robot pulled her down deeper and deeper. As Shadow’s figure became smaller, so did her hope of being rescued.

Shadow looked around deeper until he saw a moving silvery pink figure moving downward. Despite the fact that his body was numb and weak from the chilling water, he swam as fast as he could, getting closer and closer by the second. Once he got close enough, he prepared to attack, and got into a ball. He charged violently at the robot, but it wasn’t of much use, since he was much slower underwater, plus the fact that he was already weak from the water’s chilling effect. He had to face the facts.

He was too weak to win. But he couldn’t give up. Not when Amy- and possibly the world was danger. He dove in and tried once more. No luck.

Is this really all I’m made of? He asked himself. For crying out loud, I’m the Ultimate Lifeform! I defeated things worse than this! I’ve got to give it all I’ve got!

The jets in his shoes gave him a short charge at the enemy, enough to give him a clear shot at the robot. The result was the same, but this time it grabbed him with one of its mechanical arms. He let out a painful yelp, as he slowly began to pass out.

Amy’s eyes widened. Her only chance of being rescued was going. Poor Shadow… He gave it all he had… She couldn’t let Shadow die… She couldn’t.

He’s done everything for me… I’ve got to do something I can’t let it end like this. Shadow… Shadow… SHADOW!

She felt a strange feeling. It felt like a great power inside of her, something that had been dormant forever, was ready burst out of her. It felt like a sharp pain. For an instant, everything was engulfed by a bright pink light. The light, as magnificent as it was, the power was too much for Amy. The pink light turned to black as she closed her eyes.

About an hour later…

Amy slowly opened up her eyes to find the warm sun shining in her face. She was confused as ever. She noticed Shadow sitting by a tree. He looked like nothing had happened to him. He was just lying there nonchalantly like he always did. He turned his head over to Amy.

“W-what happened?” She asked. “Was it- was it all a dream? I don’t… remember.”

Shadow just stared. He didn’t say anything.

“Are you okay?” She asked. “Did I- did I do something bad?”

He smirked as he shook his head left to right. He fixed his gaze to the sky. “I don’t really remember a lot myself… But I can fill you in on a little bit. When you were captured, I tried everything to save you. But it was of no luck. I thought we were going to die. But then I saw this weird pink light.”

Her eyes widened as she remember that strange light she saw.

“It looked like it emerged out of nowhere,” he continued. “It looked almost like- like it came from you…”

She looked down at the ground, feeling depressed.

“As to after that, I don’t really remember much. I woke up on the ice caps with you, I must’ve passed out after that light… Whatever that pink thing was, it was powerful. It brought down that machine in an instant. I carried you out here. You were out for quite a while.”

“It felt painful,” she muttered.

“Huh?”

“The light. It really hurt. I-I don’t know where it came from, it just was there one second. I’ve never felt like that in my life.”

“So I was right, it did come from you.”

“I’m- I’m sorry!”

“Sorry?” He smirked. “What’re you sorry for? Without that- thing, we may have never made it out alive. Whatever it was, it seemed to work in your favor.”

“I guess. I’m just to feel like I know myself less and less.” She closed her eyes in shame.

“It’s okay. Once this is all over, we’ll get back to the way things used to be. I’m sure by then you’ll feel like you know yourself again.”

“Yeah… I guess your right. I just hope that this will be over soon…”

“Me too. But I think we better get back to Station Square to tell the rest of the guys.”

“Right.” She nodded. “But wait! Shouldn’t we go back and get the robot to show Tails?”

“Maybe. But we’re both pretty weak. Transporting a giant robot from here to Station Square would be a difficult task. As important as getting that robot is, getting you to safety is my first priority. Besides, it will probably be there when we get back.”

“Alright. That sounds-” She fainted once again. She fell on to the soft green grass.

“Amy!” He picked her up off the ground. “I guessed that thing really took out a lot from her…”

He began walking toward the station as he carried Amy in his arms. He climbed up the stairs and walked onto the station. The doors to the train opened. He walked through the door. He set her down on one of the train cushions. He sat down beside her. It took a couple of minutes for her to regain conscious once again.

Her eyes peeked open again. “Ow… What happened?” She noticed that the scenery had changed once again. “I… I passed out again, didn’t I?”

“Yeah. I think that power really did take a lot out of you.”

“Power always does come at a price…”

“When we get back, you better get back to your apartment to rest. I’ll get someone to watch over you while the rest of us go back for the robot.”

“What about you? You’re still pretty weak!”

“I’ll be fine. You are speaking to the Ultimate Lifeform!”

She sighed. “I guess there’s no point in trying to stop you. I’m too weak to do anything, anyway… But please take care of yourself. Make sure Sonic’s okay too.”

“If I have to…”

“Another thing…” She began. “When this is all over… I want you to live closer to me. So we can do things together more often. Promise?” She raised her pinky finger to him.

He looked at her for a moment and smiled, he raised his pinky and wrapped it around hers.

“I promise.”
