Description Saria from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time.

This is technically the 1st completely digital painting I have done and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Any comments/critiques are very much welcome

Full credit for character design goes to Nintendo, pose inspired by Range Murata.

Here's a "long review" :

A pretty nice picture.
The hair coloring is quite impressive, several nuances mixing together in harmony.
The coloring for her skin, eyes and shirt are nice as well.
It is ok for the fairy, but could be sharper there. I think the fairy has so weak colors that it almost fades away, being unimportant. I think it would have been more interesting with even stronger and brighter colors instead.
The background is good, although it is so blurry you cant see what it is supposed to portray. Probably a forest with some sort of wild vegetation. Maybe it is Kokiri forest or something like that.
All the different colors and shapes and forms in it make it interesting, after looking at it for a while. Here you can see a different use of mixture harmony. Lighter and darker nuances come together without making it end up as weird or unbalanced. Have to admit that kind of background isnt so common to see.
The angle you look at Saria in the pic is a bit odd. The angle is very close up and from below.
To complicate things it appears to be a little from the side too.
It seems you intended to make Saria feel a little sexy when looking at the size of her bust. I guess she is an "adult" in the pic. They are quite big and appear realistic.
Her expression is good but doesnt suit the common image of Saria. Here it looks as if she is very neutral. That is what you can tell from the look of her eyes and mouth.
When looking at the details in her face, you can see they are well made; eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows and eyelashes. Although the light reflection bubbles on her eyes are good but could be better. Right now they feel a bit stiff. Would have been more amusing if they were like glass reflecting sunlight and not overdoing it. Another thing to improve is the lower lip, which is a line. It could have been straighter.
There is one more weakness below the eyes though. Some sort of black line under the right eye from the right corner and one under the left one from its left corner. I think those are supped to be eye mascara. Not sure why they have been made to stretch only half-ways under the eyes though. However, by doing so they look a bit more special than not doing so. Therefore you should have made the black line of mascara under the left eye to be even smoother and thinner than it is now.
Saria's ear have a pretty good design. It varies among artists how to draw them. In your case the ear is pretty big, wide and a little long. Surely looks like that because of the close up angle. It could have been made a tad smaller, and by doing so seem more interesting than the version now.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an in-depth critique - it is very much appreciated! Most of what you've said, in terms of things that need fixing, I've been meaning to correct for a while - work and the like seem to always get in the way!

Watch this space for the edited version, hopefully that won't be too far off.

Thanks again for the comments

I'm glad you find the posted critique useful ^_^.
Yea, work and such can really be a pain for the creativity.
I look forward to the edited version. Make sure to keep the current version in your gallery so visitors may compare the first and second version, once the edited one is finished sometime in the future.
Furthermore, it would be really nice if you could create more pictures of Saria later on. She is such an interesting character that is greatly underestimated, which is sad.
