Hi everyone,

Here is a still-life painted with acrylics using the indirect painting technique. I initially planned it as my original for the MasterStudiesAndMore group's "master study to original" challenge of July/August back in 2020: www.deviantart.com/masterstudi… .

I staged this composition in my living-room but ended up having to paint from pictures because I did not have much time to paint until the end of the year. The fruits and vegies have long been eaten
But you can see here the 1st stage of the painting (values): sta.sh/0147qo90s4d4 . If you look closely you will see that I deviated quite a bit from my original plan. My intention was to have the value of curtains lie between value of the two pumpkins, i.e. to have one pumpkin lighter than the curtains and one darker than the curtains. It did not work. My red did not make such a dark value without transforming into a brownish or purplish color that I did not want. So I set out to learn more about the relation between the colors I own / have in my palet and their corresponding value - it was a good excercise. It would have been good to learn more about light, shadow and bounced light before painting this, but it was nice to take the first step in this exploration. Just scratching the surface.
