this gift you've given me, of being soberis wonderful and terrible all at once
you pointed out the way and off i strode
with purpose and terror and hope
trying to master the craving every evening
in the quiet time when i can't see or hear you
uncertain that i can do this thing alone
life burns and soothes
it tickles and hurts
it laughs and cries
full of joy
full of rage
full of sorrow
everything is different now and i am afraid
far from the safety of you with this,
the hardest thing i've ever done
