I can somehow tell that it was ur first time...
very good for a first try btw...

it looks like digital artwork the way you got the silhouette to glow like that using the gouache...

btw I've never used it before...

is it similar to acrylics or maybe pastels?
or is it a different experience altogether...?

Well, I such person who needs a variety, therefore I constantly try new things in art. However the favourite tool-it a pencil.
One my good friend has presented me water colour paints which I in due time wish to test..). So why I about them have started talking? To compare to gouache. so easier to explain. During drawing, I wished to make moustaches in the usual way for me, but during drawing a background, they have disappeared and then I have decided to try them to draw a water color. Well, that I put these experiences not at the work, and a separate leaf. During experience I have found out, that the water color is not friends at all of a pencil that would make moustaches dirty. And here I have recollected that I have from school there was a gouache! To it of years 10 already likely.. On the structure it is very dense paint which does not blur and well lays down atop of a pencil not mixing up with it.
To work with it it has appeared pleasantly).
As to acryle.. I can not tell - did not try.

Luminescence around of the leopard are not painted over parts of a leaf on which I drew. I have received such effect by creation of smooth transitions of a pencil in a background of the work).

I hope has not strongly loaded the detailed story...?))

Haha! I see

You did a very good job shading the BG to create that glow effect
~bravo!

Yes poster/watercolor paints do not mix well with pencil...
neither do acrylics...

Acrylics are more a type of plastic-base paint, it gives a distinct glossy finish when finished drying properly at the right applied amount. Diluting is a must, because it drys very quickly, making mixing/blending an almost insurmountable task...

Pastels are similar to acrylics but they take a VERY long time to dry, but their 'staying power' is unmatched by other paints. (It's the kind of paint that never really fades, no matter how old it gets...)

They are used for much larger paintings that usually go on the wall...it leaves lot of leverage to stand back and watch your work and apply re-touches while the paint is still wet.

anyways, you have me interested in this gouache type paint,
for it to work so well with pencil makes me want to try it myself!

Hopefully I can find some here where I'm from...

I don't normally order art materials...
since I don't always get FREE shipping...

I'd be really proud as an artist if I was able to master using all of the available art materials in this life-time

Great details here, in the hair in the ears, the eyebrow hairs, and the shine on the eyeball. I like how the long whiskers are a major part of the composition.
