It's... odd.
I'm not sure if I really like it yet, but I know I don't dislike it. So I suppose I neutral. Mecha shows aren't really my thing.
So far, I like Kamina (most of the time, anyway; he gets kind of irritating), Kittan, Viral (haha, crazy cursing mofo), Leeron (he's love), and whoever the chubby blue beastman general is. The one with the hammer. He's awesome. Though I wish the series had a better selection of female characters to pick from. Most of them are kind of idiots, so far.
Waiting to see if the show will actually draw me in right now, I guess. I think it's kind of getting me, now.

That's Thumilph the Crasher, the big blue beastman guy. Yeah, know what you mean. Nia is the only female that has to come in now, pretty much. I think you'll like Leite when she gets more of a part in the second arc.

Well... kinda. The mecha thing is still working to avidly make my suspicious of the series. 
I like it but I don't, sort of thing. Hard to explain. In any case, I fear I won't obsess over it like you. Shame, I miss those days. P:
