A super intelligent wizard having his breakfast, and reading... The Daily Scroll...?Palette challenge piece, again. I think this was the most layers I've used in any of these illustrations up to this point. Each block of colour was its own layer with shading clipped onto it, plus several layers for effects. The results are clean, but a bit too clean. I'll keep trying to find the balance.

I'm guessing the glowy bits were hard. I very much like, pose is excellent, the dropped shoe is hilarious and something to connect with, and his blue skin makes it more interesting. Also you can't go wrong with glowy bits.
I also want to say there's some long suffering cat or apprentice behind him. Possibly the brains of the operation. Cause he makes me think common sense wouldn't occur to him

To be honest, the glowy bits are the easiest. Rendering Mr Blue Lad here was tough. :b
I may have just painted his catprentice, now that I think of it!

Oh I think I see what you mean about the cleanliness thing, I am struggling with that right now personally too. I usually just end up blocking in areas of similar saturation and proximity, and that is producing a gradually more unified look.
I really like the concept for this painting and I appreciate the hands and feet.

I don't know... I like your battle sister painting approach to rendering. It's clean, but not too clean. The contours are crisp but not overly so. Kind of like what I'm trying to get in my own art, but ...it's a struggle. @.@

Oh man! you know the battle sister painting, I was happy with the effect too - but I realized that I did it super quickly and gave myself a time limit on it. I couldn't go in and over-render. Β If only I had the self-control to do that more, I am going to try it next time! Do you come from a drawing/comics background too, ancalinar? Β That was/is my biggest hurdle coming into painting, because coloring a line art is such a different technique.

My background is in animation, so pencil line drawings is my native medium, you could say.

Yeah⦠it still doesn't feel natural to me. I love my pencils, and I feel like I can't master both painting and draughtsmanship. Gotta pick one!
