Very cool, though the proportions of the lions face aren`t correct. The eye is too low. Though disregard this comment, as I realise this was uploaded in 2006 and you must have imrpoved since.
You have excellent shading going on in the mane, however.

I was going to say "amazing", but someone already did. I was going to say it looked like a b/w photograph but someone already did.
I was going to say that scratchboard was difficult and someone already did.
I was going to say the fur and hair looks very realistic, but someone already did.
So I faved it. I'll bet someone already did that too.

For scratchboard this is amazing, even if it isn't acurate. The fur detail is amazing... I have no idea how you had the patience to pull that off especially without being able to erase mistakes. Scratchboard is really a one shot deal.. @___@.... wow. I can say I'm completely taken aback by this. It's wonderful.

that is amazing... ive only done one scratchboard drawing and that was in art 1(high school) ill be submitting it soon, but i wasnt smart enough to get a reference photo somewhere, so i just drew as i went, and it turned out ok, but definately not as good as this

Mistakes?!? Ridiculous! I heard scratch board is kinda hard, and for some one who apparently can't draw cats this is a masterpiece! The rendering of the fur and mane is beautiful, though the muzzle looks a tad off, but hell that's google images for you!

this looks very good for your first try. There are a few mistakes with the anatomy, which I'm sure you know about already.
I've never used a scratchboard before, I'm more of a pencil-lover, so I can't really say that I know how difficult it is, but I can tell you I feel your pain in terms of drawing cats. I've been sketching cats since I was a little kid, and I can never get the hang of drawing them. No straight lines whatsoever, and they're so perfect (in my opinion, anyway) that I end up psyching myself out because I'm scared of imperfections. *patpat* As long as you practice, you'll do fine. Good luck!

This is your first scratchboard?! HOLY SHIT!
I've tried that medium before, it's a bitch. (that's why I didn't post anything I did with it, haha)
And the details on this-- they're incredible. Your tones are great, and you make the lines look so light and delicate. This is incredible.

your project sounds fun, i wanna try it now D:
but yeah, scratchboards are really fun |D you need to by scratching tools, though :B (the metal pen ones, not the sticks, sticks=bad |D )

yeah i think i know what those are, i remember when I took AP art in Highschool, the Art 1 & 2 students in the class were using scratchboards, theyre like sticks with long needle sticking out one end right?

the stick ones i saw didnt have long needles coming off of them, but im sure the needle ones werent very stable xDD; the sticks im talking about are kind of like oversized toothpicks :B

This is really nice, though the eye is kinda weird. Just some advice for doing a portfolio: They don't really want to see like lions.. XD They mostly want long figure drawings from real models, not so much from pictures. And some schools recquire specifics. ie. self portrait, a bicycle
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Andoledius In reply to mykza [2006-11-25 13:55:03 +0000 UTC]
yes i know, i have that all done :B but the colleges i spoke with like to see things that i do personally, and they want to know i can do a variety of mediums, so im not just stuck in one field :V
most colleges around here only require two self porttraits, which isnt that bad xD

it came out awesome kiddo! all I think you really need to do is experiment with redering a little more the anatomy is a bit off in the muzzle
P.S a little info passed down from teachers, NEVER use Google for reference photos, use [link]

whoops, goodbye google, then XD i guess its not that big of a deal, since its a portfolio piece, right? :/ or maybe ill just keep it out all together, since the anatomy is off D:
