What was it all made out of, if you don't mind me asking?

not at all: the armor is made out of duct tape and craft foam. the helm is tin foil and paperclay.

Duct tape ftw! Does the helm ever tip over when you're leaning forward or backward or even walking? Can you sit comfortably with the hip armor? Like kneeling or sitting in a chair (if you sat down in that cosplay at all)?

The helm was pretty balanced, I had a hair comb glued into it as well. And sitting? haha! NO sitting all day ever! :0 Kneeling was out too b/c of the knee armor. I could...lean on stuff, carefully heh.

I can't even run with my helm on xD That's a great idea actually. I hope you don't mind my asking these questions. I'm actually doing a WoL cosplay and came across yours (which looks rather lightweight compared to others) so yeahh...
About the hip armor thingy.... is it stiff like... it doesn't swivel or flap or whatever whenever walking?
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being most uncomfortable, what would you say the comfort level of the cosplay is?

AndreaOfTheLand In reply to Amleya [2009-10-14 20:08:41 +0000 UTC]
no worries. My armor is actually really light. heh
The hip armor is pretty stiff, its made from craft foam, and with the curve as it is, there is no flapping or anything. On mine, it's all one piece that velcro's in the back.
I'd put it at a 6 on comfort level. Not being able to sit and the way my armor sat on my shoulders was pretty uncomfortable. But movement is pretty good and my shoes were comfy so its not too bad. Only after a few hours does it get real annoying.
GOOD LUCK ON YOURS! feel free to ask any questions, and i wanna see yours when its done OKAY?! ^_^

How strong is craftfoam? You said before that you had to be careful with leaning against something. Is it that malleable (assuming the craftfoam was laid on last)? So like what are the layers of the armor comprised of? Mine's in this order: cardboard, duct tape, poster paper, liquid latex, and paint. (Might add a metallic finish too)
If you plan to cosplay WoL at another con, you should have a lackey bring you food

omg lacky would be awesome. We were out of state, and all equally armored heh
craft foam is bendy, you can actually reshape it over a stove, so its pretty sturdy. i sealed and painted it, and that would have cracked if i sat down and stuff. the foam itself would have been fine.
the hips are just craft foam and a bit of duct tape to hold it together on the inside.
the chest armor is a t-shirt coverd in tape (while i'm wearing it) and then craft foam hot glued on for a smooth finish.

Do you by any chance have progress photos? xD I'm still kinda laughing having just learned the chest armor was a shirt (oh the things we do for cosplay xD)
Any chance of attending Sakura-con (April 2-4) in Seattle, Washington?

ah I'd love to hit Sakura-con,unfortunatly i live almost as far away as possible in South Florida lol
The shirt and duct tape method is based off a tutorial I once saw for making custom Dressforms. pretty easy to find via google.
this is the only progress shot i have handy, Its pre-paint, pre collar/shoulder and details. the hip armor is just the craft foam base.

xD Must be comfortable compared to something made out of poster paper as the base. I've taken lotsa progress pics (most of them look ridiculous) Here's my chest armor before it was layered [link] and pretty much almost done [link]
Some things need to be reworked though -.-;

xD I completely took apart the armor though after I received the wig solely for WoL xD I'm still trying to figure out how to keep it fanned out against the slightly wider neck part (since my new wig's thinner and slightly shorter than the old one)
Progress pics here xD; [link]
Thanks for answering my inquiries!
