"How much longer until we get there?" Creme bemoaned from behind Lillian.
"Not much longer, it should be just over this rise." Lillian said calmly, unbothered by the mare's complaining, she was truly a saint for her patience.
Firo squinted over the horizon, spying a flat water feature in the distance. "Is that it?"
Lillian nodded. "Yes, I went to this lake a long time ago."
"Finally…" Creme muttered, thinking that the other two wouldn't hear her.
The trio made their way down the hill towards the lake, oblivious to the fact that they weren't the only ones visiting the site. Creme made it to the water first, trotting briskly by Lillian to relieve her thirst. As the mares drank, Firo lingered behind them, at least aware that other creatures would come to this place for water - he had to be alert.
He was glad he had stopped to check, because on the same side of the lake as them, a group of humans were stopped along the trail, watching from afar. Likely hikers visiting the beautiful lake, the humans didn't seem to want to harm the horses, but Firo was startled by the sight.
"H - Hurry up and drink!" Firo blurted, rushing over to drink his fill before they had to run.
"What's the matter with you?" Lillian frowned, then noticed the humans, her brows shooting up in realization. "Oh…"
The humans had definitely noticed them, one of then beginning to walk towards the horses slowly, as though trying not to spook them. It wasn't working. Firo tensed, his anxiety rising the closer the human got.
"What - What is that?!" Creme balked, just as fearful as the stallion was.
"It's a human… Stay calm." Lillian said firmly, but by the way her muscles tensed and her legs tucked, it was clear that she shared the sentiment with her herd members.
The human stopped, and stared at them curiously, before turning back to her companions and pointing at the small herd, as if to say "do you see this?".
"Shouldn't we be running?" Creme worried, beginning to back farther away.
"Just wait. We don't know what they want." Lillian snapped, trying to be firm and confident while the others were afraid.
The human took a step closer, raising her hand to reach for the horses, and Firo broke. The stallion squealed, and tucked his legs, bolting. Creme followed him, kicking her legs out in fear, while Lillian looked at the two incredulously. Reluctant, the lead mare ran after the mare and the stallion, the human watching in bewilderment as they disappeared on the horizon.
