Absolutely superb. I love Ratty with the pipe! He definitely channels Sherlock Holmes in the Wild Wood when they find Badger's door.
Isn't it such a wonderfully charming story. though? Awesome.

There were sequels to "Wind in the Willows" , In one, old Badger DIES and goes to heaven. The other animals have a grief gathering to sit & ponder what he meant to them and how he enriched their lives. (Just typing this in, gave me a crying fit. I've had such whenever strong emotion hits me, ever since my mother died...)
Can you cast light on this ? Wikipedia let me down.

I read the William Horwood sequels some years ago. I do recall the last one being quite sad.

Artist's Note: After I did this illustration many years ago, I went back and read the book again, only to find out that Rat's boat is actually supposed to be blue. I made the correction, but that version is only available as a limited edition print.
