Description
My version of Melian from the Silmarillion, I think she is Arwen's demi-god great great great grandmother. Though she herself is not an elf I gave her elven ears b/c she was married to one so she would probably have take on an elven form during her time in middle earth.Melian also taught Galadriel how to bake lembas bread, or so I read.

Melian's eyes are very intense, it's almost scary. I would make them a little softer, but that's just me. And it's hard to get the light of Aman in Maiar's and Elves' faces. I love the contrast of the dark background and bright Melian. AndΒ I love that dress... that peachy color is beautiful, and the folds are amazing!

I would've expected something a little softer and more subtle from a former handmaid of the god of dreams, but I do like this. She's strong. You can believe she'd have the energy to keep her territory safe from Morgoth for decades or more.

Very beautiful. The eyes are very intense, maybe the one thing you could work on is making them less stitchy, more soft without losing the intensity. Know what i mean?

wow.... i didn't know the stuff you wrote in the description about galadriel and the lembas, cool^^ I love the image it's pretty awesome, it's very ok to give her elven ears, as it's nowhere said the valar look rather like humans than elves in their physical form

Really amazing! Melian fits the picture also well, cause Arwen's bloodline has indeed almost every case (from the father) black/dark hair and gray eyes. Good also to see so beautiful Silmarillion art! You painted this with computer? 833

Melian is the mother of Luthien who is the mother of Deor who is the father of Elwing who is the mother of Elrond who is the father of Arwen... so I think you've got the right number of greats...
Anyway, I LOVE her dress. Especially the change in colors at the bottom.

Well, unlike the fellow below me, I think this is lovely? Her proportions all look correct to me. Elves could be, I would think, tall or short. Shoulder can be described as long? Her head is the perfect size for her body. Her eyes are a realistic size, and I love the emotion and fierceness they express. In other words, well, I think this is absolutely lovely. The dress is wonderful. :3

If you paid attention to the gifts of the Elves, you would remember that the Elves were more beautiful than all of the other Children of Illuvatar (Homo Sapiens Sapiens), which ment that they were better looking than Tall, Long Shouldered, Small Headed, Long limbed, small eyed, not that beautiful Humans who have a Mandible that is bent downward.

The problems you claim to see in her are mostly non-existant, perhaps with the exception of the mandible comment (given the perspective of the railing). I find your supposed knowledge of anatomy to be highly suspect and your critique to be of an abrasive nature. That is all.

Well, maybe I might Have gone a bit far with the small head and long limbed and broad sholdered part, but, well, when It Comes to the eye and nose porportions, It really Looks too human. And, since Tolkien really did say that in the Silmarillion that the elves were more beautiful in their youth than any of the children of Illuvatar,
Which are Humans, I Imagine them looking a good bit different from humans.

Melian is not an elv... she is a maia, like Gandalf and Sauron are. Maybe she looks elvish, but i can't remember a part of the Silmarillion where Tolkien described her looks.

i quite liked melian, she was a nifty lady.... and rather scary. you have made her look rather scary

As a Maia of the Ainur should look like. This is one of the best depictions of Melian that I've ever seen. Totally fulfills my expectations of how she would appear to be. Fantastico!!!

She is beautiful (I adore her dress and hair), but I find she is a little bit too witchy and scary for the Melian I imagine.
