Description More Discworld Fan art. This time we have a drawing of Anoia, the goddess of things that get stuck in drawers ("Often, but not uniquely, a ladle, but sometimes a metal spatula or, rarely, a mechanical egg-whisk that nobody in the house admits to ever buying. The desperate mad rattling and cries of ‘How can it close on the damn thing but not open with it? Who bought this? Do we ever use it?’ is as praise unto Anoia. She also eats corkscrews.").

I drew this a while ago as part of a project I have been working on for some time and was going to keep it secret as a result, but my wife was kind enough to model for me in the kitchen with a sheet wrapped around her, and she liked the drawing so much that I let her use it on her Facebook page. So since it isn't exactly secret as a result, and since I have been too busy to create anything new to post here, Plus I think I rushed the background, I figured I would add this to my gallery.

Wonderful, I adore the expression - a bit thoughtful, but it's hard to say whether she's pondering a problem or making up mischief... ehrm, that is, getting a drawer stuck for vital metaphyiscal reasons. To teach some mortal the importance of restraint when buying useless gadgets, for example.

And I'd like to point out that just this morning I was invoking her when my mother's kitchen drawer got stuck on, off all things, a small cutting board and would open less than an inch! But, after some rattling, fumbling, poking with narrow utensils and cries of "Oh Anoia, we are all stuck in drawers of our own making...", she and the drawer relented. Praise be.

I think the style of your drawing meshes beautifully with Pratchett's novels; I'll definitely be looking for more of your work!

How do get the idea for such a character? And she's just one of many odd charas in the discworld universe. Terry Pratchetts fantasy must be overwelming! Fortunately he shares it wiht us by his books!

That is what Terry said when I showed it to him.

Definitely in the right spirit! I don't recall a cigarette holder, but as Anoia is something of a gadget goddess, it's not too farfetched that she might use one. Your wife must be a heck of a good sport too.

Even though I'm not really religious, I've taken to rattling the draws every morning, just in case.
Anoia would have to be a god I believe in. I love her, fantastic job. ^^

And the spoons always get caught in a way that you can't open the drawer.
