Description This story about the origin of the phrase ‘your goose is cooked’ (a.k.a. you’re done for) was shared with me by my younger sister. I don’t have enough information to back up its authenticity so this will be another one of those historical jokes. It’s too funny to keep to myself.

In the 16th century, a town in England was under attack by Eric the Mad of Sweden. The townspeople were irritated to the point they wanted to make a statement again the enemy. So they hung a dead goose outside the wall to say they had enough food no matter what.

Well, Eric took that personally as the goose is a symbol of stupidity. You can imagine what his interpretation of the situation was. He set the town on fire and burned it to the ground… literally cooking their goose.

But that's a Canadian Goose, if you wanted to show a goose used for food it would be a white goose.

I guess it's from migration season but those geese can't be eaten.

I heard of that story. I don't know what I like more, your depiction of chibi England or ticked off Sweden.

That is pretty insane. He burned down the town just for making a simple siege statement.
