Description For those of you familiar with this. . you'll know that my first Fallout game was one of great tragedy and hardship.  I am glad to report that did not happen in my second game.  I travelled with a veritable entourage.

Lenny, the ghoul doctor living his dream of being a hero.  He was slow, but quick to patch people up.  Not many people get a second chance to be a hero.  I felt privileged to be able to offer him that chance.

Skynet, the military computer who longed to wander the world as a robo-brain.  He was always cool.  Usually gave him the gauss rifle.

Marcus, the supermutant sheriff with a taste for justice.  IMPORTANT NOTE!  Give him an energy weapon ASAP.  He's not too picky who's the field of fire with his Gatling rifle.  You learn a lot about mutant kind from him... including the ability to make human women pregnant?  Yikes!  Also, getting all the bullets extracted from him in Vault City= hilarious.

Vic, the overweight trader and mechanic.  Always good for a laugh too.  Always calling me Boss.  His daughter gave him a hard time, but I always saw him as a regular Joe who (while not a hero) didn't turn away from what was clearly a dangerous quest.  He's easy to relate to.

Sulik and his Grampy Bone!  Sulik, stop hitting things with that sledgehammer and talk to your nose bone already!  To be honest, Grampy Bone rarely had anything useful to say, but Sulik was the only other tribal in the party.  Felt a connection to him.  Especially when I gave him a suit of power armor and a super sledge.  Always felt bad the quest to find his sister wasn't in the game.  Fallout Restoration project took care of that, giving me some closure there.

Goris, the scholarly deathclaw.  What a crazy and wild idea.  This hunched over, secretive character was actually quite gregarious and inquisitive.  Like Skynet, I enjoyed being his guide to the wasteland.  When things got real he'd throw off the robe and start ripping things apart!  The only thing that sucked about this character was the death of all other intelligent deathclaws was mandatory!  No way to avoid it!  Which sucked!  Add to the fact the epilogue acts like it's your fault somehow!

K-9 the sardonic cyborg dog.  Remind me a lot of the Doctor's robot dog truth be told.  Saved him from a mad scientist.  He's loyal and badass.

Cassidy, the ornery, shotgun wielding former bartender. He was a blast to have around.  Heavy drinking, heavy hitting, speak his mind kind of dude. He always hated Myron.  Speaking of which...

Myron.  F**k this toad.  If you've played the game you know he's a immoral, egotistical little s**t.  I always got him to cough up the antitode to Jet (which he invented) and then took him to the organ extractor.  I"LL TAKE YOUR LIVER! HAHAHAHAHA!  In hindsight, that's a pity, because his in canon universe demise is so fitting.

My character is the cocky looking one in the middle.

See the Cat's Paw in the background?  Want to know how much better this game was for me than the previous!  If you were in my team you GOT LAID!  That's right!  Especially after I was a Made Man.  Get in there boys!  Let off some steam!  Well, Skynet had someone read a dictionary to him.  K9 just got a belly rub.  Did Goris get anything?  Can't remember.

In hindsight, some things I might have changed about this picture...

1.  This was one of the only Fallout games I sometimes might play a female character.

2.  I'm only just noticing Fallout 2 had only one female companion and she was worthless.  Unless you sold her to slavers.  I'm a goody two shoes, so I never did (but being eaten by molerats was okay with me).  Anyone sell their spouse?

3.  Also, might have made my character look more tribal.

4.  Should the Highwayman have been an honorary companion?  I think so.

is the artist.

If I can name a game , which I can recommend to someone as introduction to post-apo genre, then it's Fallout series. First two games are archaic today but still legendary and I enjoyed playing both of them and sometimes those forced me to play them again after long time.

Here's one fact about fallout: at the start Interplay even not planned to make Fallout. They tried to make totally different RPG and at the start they had dramatically different ideas - one with time trawel another with Alien Invasion. Later they decided to work on Wasteland 2 (same genre , first wasteland was made decade before Fallout).
Development of the game was once also nearly cancelled thanks to licences Interplay got for enviroment of Forgotten realms and Planescape for classic game Dungeons & Dragons. For the second time, when they lost GURPS licence. They also struggled with name, original idea was simply "Vault 13" but from this name wasn't clearly known what is this game about so there were more generic suggestions like : Aftermath, Survivor or Postnuclear adventure - this situation was solved by Brian Fargo who took game home for five months, then he returned with simple word which is used for ash and dust, which falling from radioactive cloud - Fallout.
They had at start a project literally without specific plan, at the end a game, which defined Post-apo genre in gaming and which grown a big fanbase, "LARP" included.

Big shame Bethesda made from F76 a battle royale multiplayer game without no story.

No problem, next to sci-fi are steam-punk and post-apo my fawourite genres and Fallout 2 was one of first games I played as child on my first PC (next to for example KKND Crossfire, Tiberian Sun or Quake 2).

It's real shame after effort of Interplay and Obsidian entertainment, which brought Fallout back alive for a while with New Vegas all this was threw away with battle royale like F-76, single play suited Fallout best, there were no needs to changing it.

Another fact: BIS (Black Isle studios) and Interplay had theirs own project for Fallout 3. It was called Van Buren, it was built on improwed isometric engine and some of the locations from it like New Kanaan or Hoower Dam appeared or were mentioned in New Vegas or it's DLCs. Selling ownership of entire Fallout franchise to Bethesda definitely left Van buren abandoned in state of unfinished game and concept arts - this was caused by bad financial state the Interplay was in - later was stated as bankrupt. Abandoned were also plans of Interplay for Project V-13 which was supposed be a MMORPG game, this was the last try the Interplay made to go up with any plan to pull itself out of trouble. Interplay not had enough money and time to meet deadline for completing V-13 and it was cancelled.

The Idea of Fallout MMO was later adopted by indenpendent group of game creators called as "The Rotators". They set servers on map of Fallout 2 and the game had simple name FOnline. FOnline was later disabled and Rotators released it's source code.

If I recall correctly, if you have the restoration project, you can save the deathclaws of Vault 13 by killing Doctor Schreber in Navarro before going to Vault 13.

Anyway, Fallout 2 and New Vegas has my favorite companions in the series! My main team in 2 is almost always Sulik(, Vic, Cassidy, Marcus and Lenny. I loved New Vegas more when I found out Cass was actually Cassidy's daughter when I first played it.

The Restoration says a lot about how much love this game generated.

That's a pretty awesome for a main team in Fallout 2.  As for New Vegas, Cassidy is a lot like her dad.  Makes me sad they didn't keep the romantic sub quests.

Being shot in the back by Sulik and Marcus?  You REALLY HAVE played the game!  You'll note Marcus has a plasma rifle here and Sulik has a sledgehammer.  Of course, later upgrade him to Supersledge.

Yeah!  Max out that charisma!  You can talk your way through ANYTHING!

CO with Advanced PA and top-tier energy weapons, Sulik in Upgraded PA with P90c and SuperSledge, Vic in UPA and Pancor Jackhammer, Cassidy in PA with Gauss Rifle sniping enemies far beyond thier firing range, Marcus killing us with Rocket Launchairs and Skynet with P90 being Skynet. Good Times. Good Times.

Man, it's not too often that I find art of Fallout 2, let alone one with all the companions. Nice work.
I've always felt like Lenny was my trusty sidekick. And Goris kinda speaks for himself.

But you outta draw the three cut companions, speaking of having only one female companion. There are actually three more possible companions that didn't make the final cut; you can unlock them via restoration project. Amongst them is a female companion who isn't useless. I like to think my chara began a relationship with Kitsune...

AndronicusVII In reply to Afterstar [2017-03-15 00:58:46 +0000 UTC]

Did you see this one?

Lenny and Goris were pretty awesome.  The bug in the system which made his Vault auto-die off did suck though.  Lenny's story was easy to connect to, and Goris was just plain interesting.

Not familiar with the cut characters.  However, the point of these pictures is to  talk about things that affected me emotionally at the time.  Still I'm glad you like those characters.

Afterstar In reply to AndronicusVII [2017-03-15 14:17:10 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, I have. Such a bittersweet story right there, being unable to save your companions. To be honest, it was real hassle trying to not let them get killed... or not getting killed by Ian.

Yeah, a damn shame that they do not survive. But there is hope that Goris can.... fornicate? Now THAT would be an interesting story to see, trying to play wingman to him. And Lenny is just one of my favorites since he is so relatable. Also, your Chosen One is gonna need to be constantly patched up after constantly charging into gunfire.

I'd be surprised if you were familiar with them. You can only have one of them, but they include a charming sociopath, a grisly soldier who I think is part cat, and a chinese spy.
But I digress, these games are so memorable in these regards, giving us so many emotions and memories.

Ian was a little prone to friendly fire...

All sound like interesting characters.  As for the emotions and memories, it's what a great RPG does.

The reason for the mandatory death of the intelligent deathclaws was a glitch; there was an ending where they lived on and started a prosperous, inclusive community around Vault 13, but it was bugged and your options got reduced to "kill 'em all" or no ending whatsoever.
