My scan of it was really bad i think, the rose looks really grainy but in reality it really isnt i spent hours smoothing that sucka out

this looks so much like lennonΒ΄s eyes! it kinda fits in the composition. amazing drawing. and about the grainy rose, try to take a picture when scanner fails. but with low exposition. it will come out a bit darker than the actual drawing, but itΒ΄s better than to give the wrong impression. it really sucks when itΒ΄s so difficult to smooth something in the shadoes and it turns out grainy.

It's interesting what you say about smoothing out the rose....
When I look at it, it looks like what I have with some of my drawings. I spend heaps of time darkening and smoothing, and in the end it looks as if the graphite has dissapeared and the paper doesn't absorb it, or something
I was just thinking this week, that I should try some other paper. I use Daler Rowney, heavy weight paper. What do you use?

Mmm paper does make a lot of difference, i had some W H Smiths 135gsm paper, that stuff was really very good, but now i cant afford to get any so ive been drawing on just normal A3 printer paper, it does the job but :/ cud be alot better. Pencils make a big difference too, i love the Derwent Graphite pencils Β£4 for H to 9B love em. Also gotta get some mechas i have some 0.5's but i want some 0.3s to get even more detail in, also for hair.
