A manse is like a... Confluance of ley lines. "magical" energy seems up in areas, and Manses can be constructed there. the manse is built to channel that energy in many different ways. in the case presented, it is "aspected" towards Autocthon (who is a machine god,think nikola tesla + Hesphestus + Cybertron). it works out sorta like a temple, but also makes it a good place for things that Autocthon is good at (makin stuff). so that's why you have a big steam-punk factory cathedral lookin thing in the middle of a fantasy town.
