i think that's very important. I'm semi-retired now but I'm as busy with my own projects and paintings as I was when working full time for publishers.

Working full-time for publishers is the dream, certainly - but it is comforting to know that I will enjoy doing this regardless if there is any work in it or not.

When I was knee deep drawing fairies for a book series with a horrible deadline the life of a freelance illustrator seemed less glamorous. Still, infinitely better than other work I do

I know what you mean, before I began to get regular illustration work as an illustrator I supported myself with part time jobs, mostly disagreeable.
I'd love to see some of the work you did for the fairies books.

It's funny - back when I was a kid I did all this sort of stuff - exploring sewers and deserted shipping yards on weekends... all cool stuff that I would be scared to death to let my kids do now that I am a parent.
